மனிதமும் மாட்சியும்

ஆகஸ்ட் 13, 2018: எசேக் 1:2-5,24-28; மத் 17:22-27

இறைவனின் மாட்சிமை நம் கண்கொண்டு காண இயலாதது என்பதை எசேக்கியேல் அழகாய் விளக்குகிறார். அந்த இறைவனின் உருவிலும் சாயலிலும் படைக்கப்பட்ட நாமும் அதே மாட்சியை தங்கியவர்கள் என்பதை நாம் ஏன்  அவ்வப்போது மறந்துவிடுகிறோம்? இறைவனில் இணைந்து இருக்கும் வரை நமது மாட்சியும், உலகம் வியக்க மின்னுகிறது. ஆனால் இறைவனை விட்டு விலகி சிந்தித்தால் அதே மாட்சி, கர்வமாய், தற்புகழ்ச்சியாய், திமிராய், அரக்கத்தனமாய் அழிவுக்கு வழிவகுக்கிறது. இறைவனோடு இணைந்து உள்ளவரை இந்த மாட்சியே நம் அன்றாட வாழ்வின் துன்பங்களையும் துயரங்களையும் சோதனைகளையும் தாங்கிக்கொள்ளும் ஆற்றலை நமக்கு அளவில்லாது தருகிறது. 

நற்செய்தியிலே கிறிஸ்து இந்த மாட்சியை தக்கவைத்துக்கொள்ள ஒரு வழியை நமக்கு கற்பிக்கிறார். வாழ்வின் ஒவ்வொரு தருணத்தையும் இறைவனின் கண்ணோட்டத்திலிருந்து காண கற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள், என்கிறார் கிறிஸ்து. அது வெறும் வரி செலுத்தும் ஒரு செயலாக இருந்தாலும் அதை எப்படி இறைவனின் கண்ணோட்டத்தில் காண்பது என்பதை நமக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டாய் வழங்குகிறார். 

வாழ்வின் சாதாரண நிகழ்வுகளையும் கூட இறைவனின் கண்ணோட்டத்தில் கண்டு புரிந்துகொள்ளும் தன்மையை நமக்குள்ளே வளர்த்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு செய்யும் போது நன்மையோ தீமையோ, இன்பமோ துன்பமோ, வெற்றியோ தோல்வியோ, நிறைவோ குறைவோ எல்லாவற்றிலும் இறைவனின் மாட்சி மிளிர்வதை நம்மால் உணர முடியும், அதே மாட்சி மனிதர்களாகிய நம்மிடமும் இருப்பதை நம்மால் நம்ப முடியும். இறைவனின் கண்ணோட்டத்தில் வாழ்வை காண்போம், நமக்குள் குடியிருக்கும் இறைவனின் மாட்சியை கண்டுணர்வோம்!

BREAD FOR THE JOURNEY

Bread, the destiny and the Journey

19th Sunday in Ordinary time: 12th August, 2018

1 Kgs 19: 4-8; Eph 4:30 - 5:2; Jn 6: 41-51

When we were kids, I am speaking of almost three decades ago when eating at hotels or restaurants was still reserved for exquisite occasions, we would go on family pilgrimages that lasted over a couple of days. Apart from the spiritual value it had, I am reminded of the special preparations that preceded, specially those of preparing food for those days, which we would take along with us. There were certain types of rice preparations that would last for two days without the necessity of refrigeration or anything of that sort, but it meant extra care and special recipe at the time of preparation. As a kid, I remember I would get excited at the spread because the more it was, the longer the journey were to be. The preparation already gave us an idea of the duration of the journey. 

Get up and eat, the Angel tells Elijah, it is going to be a long journey! The food was not merely to be eaten for the moment, but it was a source of sustenance. The Word this Sunday invites us to look at the Bread for the Journey, which means to look at the bread, to look at the destiny that is long and to look at the journey itself which could be trying. But do not be preoccupied says the Lord, because, I am the bread for the journey, I am the destiny of the journey and I am the journey!

I am the bread for the journey.

I am the bread, not any bread but the bread that has come down from heaven, and only the bread that has come from heaven can prepare you for heaven. Remember that you are bred for heaven, that is, you are being nurtured for heaven and I am the bread that can transform you into true stuff meant for heaven. The longer the journey is, the stronger the food has to be; the more trying the journey is, the more nourishing the food has to be. As bread from heaven, I have within me not merely all sweetness but all that it takes for you to make this journey!

I am the destiny of your journey.

You have to reach me, and you cannot come to me unless my Father draws you to me! My father has drawn you, that is why we are here conversing with each other. I am the way and not merely the way, I am the destiny too! Fix your gaze on me and do not get lost on your way. There would be pitfalls all along: the grudge that you can have against your brothers and sisters will distract you from progress, the anger that you harbour at heart can weigh you down and dampen your spirit; the spite that you have for others might make you lose your vision ahead. If you have to reach me, you need to take care of your relationship with others - be friendly; you need to pay special attention to those in need - be kind; and you need to be loving towards those who do not love you - forgive! The Holy Spirit has given you the capacity to make all this possible, do not waste that power invested on you - make it up to me, I am waiting!

I am the journey.

Do you think I am sounding like a task master, having given you a task and waiting to see if you got it completed? No, I am not only the destiny of your journey, I AM your journey! I am the way, I have told you this! I am the way, I am the journey, and I am the bread for the journey, all you need to do is, look up to me, learn from me, feed on me and be nourished by me. Eat of me, and become like me. Drink from me and be filled with my Spirit. Eat and drink, that you may grow into my very self... that is the journey - growing to be me! It is a life long journey, a journey of becoming me!  

You have embarked upon this journey right from the time you received the Spirit from my Father, that was when the Father drew you to me! Now that you are well on the way, my child, realise that I am the journey and never stop your progress, that I am the destiny of your journey and do not take you eyes off me and that I am the bread for your journey, be strengthened by me and be transformed into me!

Just a bit of faith...

Saturday, 18th week in Ordinary time

August 11, 2018: Hab 1:12 - 2:4; Mt 17:14-20

Righteous shall live by their faith!

Faith... if we have it, we have everything; if we have everything but faith, there is  a lack that nothing else can complete. This is why Jesus expresses his displeasure in such plain terms to his disciples.

Today, many might complain as does the father to Jesus in the Gospel today: your disciples were not able to cure my son! They will be looking at us and deriding us, you so-called disciples of Christ you are not able to prove this, you who call yourselves Christians you are not able to safeguard yourself and how are you going to save the world, you who claim to be followers of Christ where is your God in all the evil that is taking place around you! We are bound to hear those voices: let us not ignore them. They have a point. They remind us, how powerful a little bit of faith can be. If we truly have faith, how much we can do for the good of the creation!

Prophet Habakkuk speaks of the great promises of the Lord and recommends the anxious awaiting hearts to faith and says, in faith the righteous ones shall see every word of the Lord come true! The delay that is involved in the designs of the Lord coming to pass, is a painful crisis to every expectant heart. We would be listed among the ranks of the righteous if we hold on in faith and have the patience of seeing the power of God shine through. It is like the new life that sprouts from a field so clueless!

A bit of faith will make us strong, enduring, persevering, resilient, patient, persistent, serene, unassailable... yes, just a bit of faith! That is all it takes.

கடுகளவு நம்பிக்கை...

ஆகஸ்ட் 11, 2018: அப 1:12 - 2:4; மத்  17: 14-20 

நேர்மையுடடையோர் தம் நம்பிக்கையால் வாழ்வடைவர். 

நம்பிக்கை... நம்பிக்கை நம்மிடம் இருந்தால் நம்மிடம் அனைத்தும் உள்ளன. ஆனால் அனைத்தும் இருந்தும் நம்பிக்கை நம்மிடம் இல்லையென்றால், முழுமைபெற ஏதோ ஒன்று நம்மிடம் குறையாகவே உள்ளது என்பதை நாம் உணர்கிறோம். இதையே கிறிஸ்து தன் சீடர்களிடம் வெளிப்படையாய் எடுத்துரைக்கிறார்.

இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில் 'உம் சீடர்களால் இதை செய்ய முடியவில்லை' என்று சுட்டிக்காட்டும் தந்தையை போல, இன்றும் நம்மை நோக்கி பலரும் பலவகையில், நமது குறையை சுட்டிக்காட்டக்கூடும்.  நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவின் சீடர்கள் என்கிறீர்கள் இதை உங்களால் சாதிக்க முடியுமா, கிறிஸ்துவர்கள் என்று உங்களையே அழைத்துக்கொள்ளும்  உங்களால் உங்களையே பாதுகாத்து கொள்ள முடியவில்லை நீங்கள் எப்படி உலகை மீட்கப்போகிறீர்கள், கடவுளின் மகனை பின்செல்பவர்கள் என்று கூறிக்கொள்கிறீர்களே உலகில் இவ்வளவு தீமை நடக்கும் போது உங்கள் கடவுள் எங்கே பதுங்கியுள்ளார், என்றெல்லாம் பல கேள்விக்கணைகள் நம்மை நோக்கி வரலாம். இவற்றை ஏற்க மறக்கவேண்டாம், அதே சமயம் அவற்றை கண்டு நடுங்கிடவும் வேண்டாம். நமது நம்பிக்கையின் உண்மையான ஆற்றல் என்னவென்று நமக்கு உணர்த்தும் கேள்விகள் இவை. இந்த நம்பிக்கை கடுகளவு நம்மிடம் இருந்தால், இந்த உலகிற்கும், உள்ள படைப்புக்கள் அனைத்திற்கும் எவ்வளவு நன்மை நாம் செய்யலாம்!

இறைவாக்கினர் அபகூக்கு இறைவனின் வாக்குறுதிகளை குறித்து நம்மிடம் பேசுகிறார். இந்த வாக்குறுதிகளுக்கு உரியவர்களாக நாம் தகுதி பெற வேண்டுமெனின் நம்மிடம் கடுகளவாவது நம்பிக்கை இருத்தல் வேண்டும் என்கிறது இன்றைய இறைவார்த்தை. நீதி பிறக்க காலம் தாழ்ந்து போகிறது, உண்மை உறங்குவது போல் தோன்றுகிறது, நன்மை ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் சாகடிக்கப்படுகிறது என்று நாம் உணரும் போது நமது ஆன்மா சோர்வடைவது மட்டுமல்லாமல் அவநம்பிக்கையில் சிக்க வாய்ப்பும் உள்ளது, அதை நாம் அறிந்து விழிப்போடிருக்க வேண்டும் என்று நாம் அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம். கட்டாந்தரையாய் இருக்கும் நிலமொன்றை துளைத்துக்கொண்டு முளைக்கும் சிறு துளிரை போல நமது நம்பிக்கை நமக்கு புதுவாழ்வு தரும் என்று நாம் நம்ப வேண்டும். 

ஆம், கடுகளவு நம்பிக்கை இருந்துவிட்டால் நம்மிடம் ஆற்றல், மனதிடம், துணிச்சல், எதையும் தாங்கும் நெஞ்சுரம், துவண்டுவிடா மனநிலை, இடைவிடா முயற்சி ஆகியவை பிறந்துவிடும், நாமும்  புதுவாழ்வு பெறுவோம்! ஏனெனில், நம்பிக்கையினால் நேர்மையாளர் வாழ்வடைவர். 

தருதலில் சிறந்த தருதல்

அகமகிழ்வோடு தருபவர்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர்!

ஆகஸ்ட் 10, 2018: : 2கொரி 9: 6-10; யோ 12: 24-26



நேற்று நடந்த ஒரு நிகழ்வோடு தொடங்குகிறேன். நான் செய்யும் தியாகங்களை எல்லாம் நான் அன்பு செய்கின்றவர் புரிந்துகொள்வதே இல்லை என்ற குறையோடு வந்த ஒருவரிடம் நான் பேச நேர்ந்தது...  நான் கூறியது: உண்மை தான், தியாகங்கள் உணரப்படாதபோது ஏற்படும் வலி கொடியதே. ஆனால் மற்றொரு உண்மையும் உண்டு... அன்பு உண்மையானது எனின், நான் செய்வது தியாகங்கள் என்றே எனக்கு தோன்றாது, என்றேன். அந்த நபருக்கு நான் சொன்னது ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள சற்று கடினமானதாக தான் இருந்தது ஆனால், என்னவொரு வியப்பு! நான் பேசிவிட்டு வந்தவுடன் முகநூல் நண்பர் ஒருவர் பகிர்ந்திருந்த காணொளி பதிவு ஒன்று என் கண்களில் பட்டது. அதன் சாரம் என்னவென்றால், ஓர் அன்னை தன் குழந்தைக்காக செய்யும் எதையும் தியாகம் என்று ஒருபோதும் கருதுவதில்லை ஏனெனில் அவளிடம் இருப்பது உண்மையான அன்பு! 

இன்று நாம் நினைவுக்கூரும் புனித லாரன்சு அவர்களின் சாட்சியமும், இறைவார்த்தை நமக்கு அளிக்கும் பாடமும் இதையே நமக்கு நினைவூட்டுகின்றன. தறுதலில் சிறந்த தருதல், தன்னையே தருதலாகும். தனக்குள்ள நிறைவிலிருந்து தருவது, தனக்குள்ள சிறிதிலிருந்து தருவது, தனக்கே இல்லாவிட்டாலும் துணிந்து தருவது என்ற இவை ஒன்றைவிட ஒன்று சிறந்த வகையான தருதல்களாகும். எனினும் அனைத்து வகை தருதல்களிலும் சிறந்த தருதல், தன்னையே தருதல் என்பதை இறைமகனும் இறைவார்த்தையும் நமக்கு தெள்ளத்தெளிவாக எடுத்துக்கூறுகின்றனர்.

இன்று புனித லாரன்ஸை நாம் நினைவு கூறும் போது தொடக்க கால திருச்சபையில் இந்த படிப்பினை எவ்வளவு ஆழமாக இருந்தது என்பதை சிந்திக்க அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம். இந்த தருதலாலே தான் பலரும் கிறிஸ்துவர்களை கண்டு வியந்தனர், அவர்களை போல வாழவேண்டும் என முடிவெடுத்தனர். புனித ஸ்தேவானாக இருந்தாலும் சரி, புனித பவுலாக இருந்தாலும் சரி, இவர்களுக்கு பிறகு வந்த நூற்றுக்கணக்கான கிறிஸ்தவ மறைசாட்சிகளாக இருந்தாலும் சரி, இன்றைய புனிதராம் லாரன்ஸாக இருந்தாலும் சரி... இவர்கள் அனைவருமே, அகமகிழ்வோடு தருபவர்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர் என்பதை ஆணித்தரமாய் நம்பினார்கள். தாங்கள் தர அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம் என்பதை யாரிடமிருந்து இவர்கள் கற்றுக்கொண்டார்கள்: தங்கள் ஒப்பில்லா தலைவரும் போதகருமான இறைமகன் கிறிஸ்துவிடமிருந்தே!

அவரே மண்ணில் விழுந்த கோதுமை மணி... தன்னையே மாய்த்து கொண்டு பலநூறு மடங்கு பலனை பிறருக்கு தரும் கோதுமை மணி. இதுவே கிறிஸ்துவின் வாழ்க்கை, கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்க்கை. நாம் இதை புரிந்து கொள்வது எவ்வளவு அவசியம்! தருவதில் சிறந்த தருதல், தன்னையே தருதலே!

The Call to Give - a life of fruitfulness

Remembering St. Lawrence, the Deacon-Martyr

August 10, 2018: 2Cor 9: 6-10; Jn 12: 24-26



For some it would appear a coincidence, but for me it was a miracle. Just yesterday, I had to talk sense to someone who was complaining that the person's sacrifice was not respected by the one whom the person loved. I had to tell the person, it is true that lack of recognition of the sacrifices made, pains. But it is also true that true love does not consider those as sacrifices! The miracle was when I returned after the conversation and I came across a video-post shared on a friend's page describing how a mother's love never considers anything done for her child, a sacrifice but just an expression of love! 

The Word and the feast today reminds us of the same message: the best of all giving is, giving of oneself! Giving from one’s abundance, giving of whatever little that one has and giving even if one does not have enough for oneself – these are praise worthy acts in their respective order. But the highest of all giving is Self-giving. 

Celebrating the Deacon-martyr, St. Lawrence, we are reminded of the early Christian communities that were so much characterized by persons who were blessed with the special charism of Giving of their own selves, apart from what they possessed. They were cheerful givers, and so we find their numbers kept growing unprecedentedly. The very spirit that they radiated held captive those who saw them and multitudes were drawn to emulate it. They were ready and willing to die to themselves that Christ may come alive in them! 

St.Paul’s words were true in so many of those early Christians – “I live, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal 2:20) and “for me to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Phil 1:21). These were not mere catchy sayings; they were true lived experiences and we witness it in great martyrs like St. Stephen, the apostles and St. Paul himself. St. Lawrence follows suit very closely later in the third century. 

After all, they had but one model who had invaded and conquered their minds, hearts and spirits - Jesus the ultimate personification of self-giving - the grain of seed that chose to fall to the ground, that it may abound in its fruits: we are the fruits and let us be worthy of the grain which has borne us. 

உடன்படிக்கைக்கேற்ற உள்ளமொன்று!

ஆகஸ்ட் 9, 2018: எரே 31: 31-34; மத் 16: 13-23

தொடர்ந்து மூன்றாவது நாளாக இன்று உடன்படிக்கையை குறித்து சிந்திக்க நம்மை அழைக்கிறது இறைவார்த்தை. உடன்படிக்கை என்பது அடிப்படையிலே ஒரு உறவு! நமக்கும் நம் இறைவனாம் ஆண்டவருக்கும் இடையே உள்ள உறவு - இந்த உறவின் ஆழம் எதனால் அறியப்படுகிறது தெரியுமா? இந்த உடன்படிக்கையில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ள இருத்தரப்பினரும் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் எவ்வளவு ஆழமாய் அறிந்திருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதை பொறுத்தே! இறைவன் நம்மை முற்றிலும் அறிவார் என்பது நாம் அறிந்ததே... ஆனால் அவரை குறித்த நமது அறிவு, தெளிவு, உணர்வு, எப்படியுள்ளது என்பதே இங்கு கேள்வி! 

'இதோ, இறைவனை தெரிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்' என்று ஒருவர் மற்றவரை பார்த்து சொல்லவேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லாத நாள் ஒன்று வரும், ஏனெனில் ஒவ்வொருவரும் இறைவனை ஆழமாய் அறிந்து உணர்ந்திருப்பர் என்று எரேமியா கூறிய நாள் வந்தேவிட்டது... இயேசு பேதுருவை பார்த்து 'நீ பேறுபெற்றவன் ஏனெனில் இறைமகனை குறித்த இந்த அறிவு இறைவன் உனக்கு தந்ததே' என்று பாராட்டுவதை நாம் காண்கின்றோம்! ஆம், இறைவனே தம்மை நமக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார்... நாம் பேறுபெற்றவர்களே!

இறைவன் தன்னையே நமக்கு இவ்வாறு வெளிப்படுத்தினாலும், நாம் வெகு விரைவில் அதை மறந்துவிடும் மக்களாய் இருப்பதனால் பல நேரங்களில் இறைவனோடு நமக்குள்ள உறவை நாம் ஓரந்தள்ளிவிடுகிறோம். கடவுளுக்கும் நமக்கும் எந்த ஒட்டோ உறவோ இல்லாதது போல் நடந்து கொள்கிறோம். இந்த மறக்கும் மனம், இந்த ஒவ்வாத உள்ளமே நம்மை நமது உடன்படிக்கையை விட்டு விலக செய்கிறது, ஆனால் இறைவனோ மறப்பதும் இல்லை, நம்மை விட்டு விலகுவதுமில்லை. 

இதோ இன்றும் நமக்கு ஒரு உறுதியளிக்கிறார்... 'உங்களுக்கு இந்த உடன்படிக்கைக்கேற்ற உள்ளமொன்று தருவேன்... பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள், மனம் மாறுங்கள், என்னிடம் திரும்பி வாருங்கள், எத்தனை தொலைவு நீங்கள் சென்றிருந்தாலும் என்னை விட்டு விலகமுடியாது ஏனெனில், நான் உங்களை விட்டு விலகுவதில்லையே!' என்று நம்மை அன்போடு அழைக்கிறார்... அவரது மக்களாய், அவரது மந்தையை சேர்ந்தவர்களாய், அவரைப்போன்றே அன்பின் உள்ளம் பெற்றவர்களாய், நமது உடன்படிக்கையின் உறவிற்கு திரும்புவோம், புத்துயிர் பெறுவோம். 

A heart worthy of the Covenant

Thursday, 18th week in Ordinary time

August 9, 2018: Jer 31: 31-34; Mt 16: 13-23

For the third day today, the discussion about the Covenant of the Lord continues. The covenant is fundamentally a relationship between the Lord and us, God's people, God's children! And the gauge with which one's connectedness to the covenant is measured is the depth or the intimacy of the mutual knowledge of the partners of the covenant. There is no doubt, the Lord knows us through and through. What about our knowing the Lord?

The day will come when you will not have to teach your loved ones to know God...for every one will know God in those days, promises the Lord. Jesus applauds Peter, saying his knowledge of Christ was exceptional, because it was God given! The day has come when Peter knew who the Lord was, as we read in Jeremiah.

The reality is, though God reveals Godself to us and we get to know God so intimately, our memories are so very fickle and short lived. We give into our human tendencies so easily and readily as if there were nothing so great between us and God! Our memories may be thus short, but not God's. God forgives, waits and readily renews the covenant that God made with us. 

The Lord promises to give us a new heart, a heart of flesh, a heart that takes after the sensibilities of God, a heart that sees as God does, a heart that hears as God does, a heart that feels as God does, a heart that loves as God loves... a heart that is worthy of the covenant that God has made with us.

எஞ்சியோரும், மற்றோரும்!

ஆகஸ்ட் 8, 2018: எரே 31: 1-7; மத் 15: 21-28

நான் உங்கள் கடவுளாய் இருப்பேன், நீங்கள் என் மக்களாய் இருப்பீர்கள், என்று தன் மக்களோடு தான் செய்த உடன்படிக்கையை இறைவன் என்றுமே மறந்ததில்லை. மக்கள் எத்தனை முறை தவறுகள் செய்து அவரை விட்டு விலகினாலும், அவரோ அம்மக்களை திரும்ப அழைத்து அணைத்த வண்ணமே இருக்கிறார். இதையே இன்று எரேமியாவும் நமக்கு எடுத்து சொல்கிறார். ஆனால் இறுதியில் இறைவனின் நன்மை தனத்தை அனுபவித்து மகிழ இருப்பவர்கள் யார் என்று இறைவார்த்தை நமக்கு கூறும்போது, எஞ்சியோரும் மற்றோருமே இறுதியாய் மகிழ்வார்கள் என்று நம்மை எச்சரிக்கிறது! 

எஞ்சியோர் என்பவர்கள் இந்த உலகமே ஒரு வழியில் செல்ல, தாங்கள் மட்டும் நிதானித்து சரி எது பிழை எது, இறைவனுக்கு ஏற்றது எது ஏற்பில்லாதது எது, என்று சிந்தித்து முடிவெடுத்து தங்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்ட வழியிலிருந்து தவறாமல் இறுதியாய் எஞ்சி நிற்பவர்களாவர்.   

மற்றோர் என்பவர்கள் பொதுவாக யாராலும் முக்கியத்துவம் தரப்படாது, தாங்களே இறைவனுக்கு உரியவர்கள் என்று தங்களையே உயர்திக்கொள்ளும் கூட்டத்திலிருந்து மாறுபட்டு, கடவுளையே தாங்கள் தான் குத்தகைக்கு எடுத்துவிட்டதுபோல் மார்தட்டி திரியும் மூளையற்ற மனிதர்களிடமிருந்து தனித்து விடுபட்ட எளிமையான மக்கள்... இவர்களின் எளிமையில் இறைவனை மட்டுமே நம்பும் குணத்தை பெற்றவர்கள், இறைவன் முன் தாங்கள் ஒன்றுமில்லை என்பதை உண்மையில் உணர்ந்து நம்புபவர்கள், உண்மையையம், அன்பையும் இறைவனின் இரக்கத்தையும் மட்டுமே முதன்மைபடுத்தி வாழ்பவர்கள். 

இந்த எஞ்சியோரும் மற்றோரும் மட்டுமே இறுதியில் இறைவனின் உடன்படிக்கைக்கு உரியவர்கள் ஆவார்கள் என்று விளக்கும் இன்றைய வாசகங்கள் நமக்கு தரும் பாடம் ஒன்றே: உலகத்தின் போக்கின் படி ஒழுகாதீர்கள், மாறாக கிறிஸ்துவில் மாற்றம் பெற்று புது படைப்பாகுங்கள்! 

The Remnant and the Rest

Wednesday, 18th week in Ordinary time 

August 8, 2018: Jer 31: 1-7; Mt 15: 21-28

The Lord renews the covenant with the people  inspite  of their failures because the Lord had always loved  them with an everlasting love. Today the Word warns us that those who will finally taste the fruits of God's faithfulness are the remnant and the rest of the people who come by and stick to the Lord.

The remnant are those who choose to differ from the mainstream inspired  by a genuine conviction and sincere effort to be integral. While the entire world runs after some things that they consider important, even more important than the absolutes like God, love and humanity, there are a few who remain strong, unmoved and totally committed to truth. These form the remnant that pleases God.

The rest are those who are least expected to be favoured in the eyes of the Lord. The world has its own criteria of judgement but the Lord has a totally different set of criteria... single minded dedication to the Lord, genuine love for God's people and authentic life after the mind of God. Whatever the world may say, these become the beloved of God!

The message is simple and straightforward but highly challenging: Do not conform to the world;  instead be transformed in Christ into new beings!
