சனவரி 13: தேடும் அன்பு தெய்வம்

நம்மை தேடி வரும் அரசரை அறிவீரா?

இன்றைய இறைவார்த்தை நமக்கு இரண்டு நபர்களை குறித்து பேசுகிறது... தொலைந்து போன கழுதைகளை தேடிச்சென்ற ஒருவர் தொலைந்து போன ஆன்மாக்களை தேடிச்சென்ற மற்றொருவர்; சற்றே வினோதமான ஒரு ஒப்புமை என்றாலும், இதில் வரும் இருவருக்கும் ஒரு ஒற்றுமையுண்டு - இருவரும் அரசர்களே! இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களினன் முதல் அரசனான சவுல் ஒருவர், இவ்வுலகின் முடிவில்லா அரசரான கிறிஸ்து மற்றொருவர். இவர் பாவிகளை, தகுதியற்றவர்கள் என்று தங்களையே கருத்துவோரை, சமுதாயத்தால் புறக்கணிக்கப்பட்டோரை தேடி செல்லும் அரசனாவார். வரலாற்றிலே மனிதர்கள் இறைவனை தேடி அலைவதாய் நாம்  கண்டாலும், உண்மை இறைவன்  மனிதரையும் தேடி வருகின்றார். நமது தகுதியின்மையோ, பாவநிலையோ அவரை நம்மை விட்டு அகல செய்யாது. அனால் நமது மனங்களை திறந்து இவ்வரசருக்கு இடம் தருவது நம்மையே பொறுத்துள்ளது. 

வெறும் உவமையில் ஒப்புமையிலும் இன்றைய செய்தியை இழந்துவிடாமல் காத்துக்கொள்வோம். செய்தி ஒன்று தான்: திறந்த மனதோடு, முழு உள்ளத்தோடு ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் நம்மையே இறைவனின் பிள்ளைகள் என்ற நிலையில் காத்துக்கொள்வதே நம் அழைப்பு. உனக்கு எதிரானவர்கள், புரிந்துகொள்ளாதவர்கள், உன்னை குறித்து அவதூறுகள் பரப்புபவர்கள் உன்னை சுற்றி இருக்கத்தான் செய்வார்கள். கிறிஸ்துவுக்கு இருந்தார்கள். அவரை போன்றே இவற்றை எல்லாம் பொருட்படுத்தாது இறைவனை பற்றிக்கொண்டு வாழ போகிறாயா? அல்லது தேர்ந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டும் அந்த உன்னத நிலையை இழந்த சவுலை போல மாறப்போகிறாயா?

தேடும் அன்பு இறைவன் உன்னை தேடி வந்துள்ளார், உன்னை தேர்ந்துகொண்டுள்ளார். அதை மறவாது அவரின் பிள்ளையாய் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் வளர முயற்சிப்போம்.

THE KING IN SEARCH

Saturday, 1st week in Ordinary Time

1 Sam 9:1-4,17-19,10:1; Mk 2:13-17

The Word presents to us today two persons...one, who went in search of the donkeys and the other, who went in search of the sinners... both for the sake of their fathers' wish! Though the comparison is strange, the fact is that both are kings...one the first king of Israel and the latter the eternal King of heaven and earth. 

We may consider ourselves worthless and as dumb as donkeys, but the truth is that the Lord is in search of us. Many a times we speak of a humanity that is in search of God...but how much more true it is to think of the Lord who is in search of each of us. Let us open ourselves up to the Lord; invite the King into our hearts; and the King shall reign forever in our lives and through us, reach out to many more who are lost and are searching for themselves! 

I do realise that I have been too allegorical here, but the message is simple and straight: to be forever open to the Lord, in a sense of daily conversion and repentance, ever growing more and more as children of God. At times you may not be  understood by all, just as Jesus found himself misunderstood, misinterpreted and misjudged. Should that matter to you, as a chosen child of God. Go ahead and remain with the Father's will. 

The King has searched you out and chosen you - believe in it. Live your everyday worthy of that King!

சனவரி 12: இறைமக்களின் ஆளுமை

ஆளுவதோ ஆளப்படுவதோ அல்ல அதையும் தாண்டி 

மனித இயல்பின் ஒரு கூறாக சில வேளைகளில் நாம் ஏதாவது ஒருவரின் அல்லது ஒன்றின் ஆளுகைக்கு கீழ் இருக்க விரும்புகின்றோம். அப்படி இருந்துவிட்டால் நாம் பல முடிவுகளை எடுக்க வேண்டியது இல்லை, பலவற்றை குறித்து சிந்திக்க வேண்டியது இல்லை, வெறும் சொல்லப்படுவதை செய்தால் மட்டுமே போதுமென தோன்றுகின்றது. இது உண்மையிலேயே இறைவனின் மக்களின் இயல்பா என்று இன்றைய இறைவார்த்தை நம்மை வினவுகின்றது. 

இறைவன் தன பிள்ளைகளுக்கென ஒரு ஆளுமையை தந்துள்ளார் அதை நாம் உணர்ந்து வாழும் போது இந்த நிலை ஏற்பட வாய்ப்பில்லை என்பதே உண்மை. ஆளுமை என்ற வார்த்தையே மிக அழகாக நமக்கு இறைவார்த்தையை புரிந்துக்கொள்ள வழி செய்கிறது. தன்னை தானே ஆளக்கூடிய அல்லது எது சரி எது தவறு, நான் எதை செய்ய வேண்டும் எதை தவிர்க்க வேண்டும், எது நன்மையானது எது தீமையானது, என்று தானாகவே நிர்ணயிக்க கூடிய திறனையே ஆளுமை என்று கூறுகின்றோம்.  இந்த முடிவெடுக்கும் தன்மையே தெளிந்துதேர்தல் (discernment) என்று கூறுகின்றோம். 

யாரோ ஒருவரோ, ஏதோ ஓன்றோ ஆளும் நிலையில் இருந்தால் நலம் என்று நினைக்கும்  போதே, தவறான மதிப்பீடுகளுக்கு நாம் வழி வகுத்து விடுகின்றோம். எது சரி எது தவறு என்று, எதை செய்வேன் எதை தவிர்ப்பேன் என்று நான் பொறுப்பெடுத்து ஒவ்வொரு செயலிலும் ஈடுபடும்போது நான் இறைவனின் பிள்ளைக்குரிய ஆளுமையை பெருகின்றேன், அந்த ஆளுமையில் வளர்கின்றேன் என்று பொருள். 

இறைவனின் பிள்ளைகள் ஆளுவதா ஆளப்படுவதா என்ற நிலைகளை தாண்டி... தங்களுக்குள்ளே இறைவன் தந்துள்ள ஆளுமையை இழந்துவிடாமல் வாழ்வதே அழைப்பு.

FREEDOM IN SUBMISSION

Friday, 1st week in Ordinary Time

1 Sam 8: 4-7, 10-12; Mk 2: 1-12

It is a human tendency to look for something or someone, to which or to whom, one can submit oneself! Whether by force or by choice, a form of legitimate dependence or extraordinary obsession, habit of blaming someone or positively seeking someone's counsel... we are always looking to submit ourselves to someone or something! 

The point to be noted here is this: whatever be the form of submission, and whatever be its reason, it makes us dependent or subservient. The first reading reminds us of this human tendency and before we judge the people of Israel of those historical times, let us understand how we ourselves fall into the same category! The only submission that gives us a sense of freedom and a sense of self-worth is the submission to God's authority - because God dwells in us and a submission to God, as God's children, is a reinforcement of our dignity, our self-worth and the sovereignty that God has placed within us, as human persons. This is what Jesus demonstrates in his encounter with the paralysed man. 

Jesus reminds us that we are children of God and we have an inbuilt authority wtihin us, the authority that is given by God. As long as we are true to our innermost self, we can enjoy that authority and it will seen by people. The moment we begin to compromise, even a little, we become diffident of that authority and begin to look for it elsewhere. This is the state of sin that we experience. 

Let us realise that God has the ultimate authority and has invested within us that authority as legitimate children of God. Mindful of this, when we are truthful, righteous and selfless, submitting ourselves only to God and God's will, we experience the greatest of all freedom: the freedom of the children of God.

சனவரி 11: உன் ஆற்றல் எங்குள்ளது?

கோட்டையும், கேடயமுமானவரே நம் வலிமை!

அத்தனை தோல்விகளுக்கு மத்தியிலும், ஆண்டவரின் பேழை அவர்கள் மத்தியில் வந்தபோது இஸ்ராயேல் மக்களின் ஆரவாரம் விண்ணை எட்டியது. காரணம், அவர்களுக்கு அவர்களின் உண்மையான ஆற்றல் எங்குள்ளது என்று தெளிவாக தெரிந்திருந்தது. வெற்றியோ தோல்வியோ, இறைவனின் மக்கள் என்ற உண்மையில்தான் அவர்களது முழு வலிமையையும் அடங்கியிருந்தது. கடவுளின் மக்கள் என்றால் கடவுளின் அன்பை பெற்றவர்கள்...அவரது சித்தப்படி எது நடந்தாலும் அது நன்மையாகவே அமையும் என்ற ஆழமான நம்பிக்கையே அந்த ஆற்றலின் ஊற்று .

உமக்கு சித்தமானால் என்னை குணப்படுத்தும், என்று கூறும் அந்த தொழுநோயாளருக்கும்  இறைவனின் சித்தமே நமது ஆற்றல் என்பது தெரிந்திருந்தது. நாம் வாழ்வு பெற வேண்டும் அதை முழுமையாய் பெற வேண்டும் என்று விரும்பும் இறைவனே நமது கோட்டையும் கேடயமும்  ஆவார்.

தோல்விகள் கண்டு   துவண்டு போவதும், துன்பங்கள் கண்டு திணறி போவதும் இறைவனின் மக்களுக்கு உரிய வாழ்முறைகள் அல்ல. என்ன வந்தாலும் எது நடந்தாலும்... இந்த வார்த்தைகள் வெறும் வார்த்தைகள் அல்ல...உண்மையாகவே என்ன வந்தாலும் எது நடந்தாலும் என் இறைவனின் சித்தத்தின் படி அது என் நன்மைக்கே என்று நம்பி பயணத்தை தொடர நம்மை அழைக்கிறது இன்றைய வார்த்தை.

மனம் முழுதும் எதிர்நோக்கோடு, கோட்டையும் கேடயமுமான அவரே என் வலிமை என்று வாழ்வோம் வாருங்கள்.
We need to rise from a style of life that is a mere damage-control, to a more proactive responsible living. When we realise the presence of God ever in our midst, we will live a life that is worthy of the Lord and the Lord's will; and that alone can keep us from becoming mere laughing stock among the people! 

Let us live up to our call, our vocation - that of being sons and daughters of God.

DO WE KNOW OUR STRENGTH?

Thursday, 1st week in Ordinary Time

1 Sam 4: 1-11; Mk 1: 40-45

When the Israelites rejoiced at the arrival of the Ark to their tents, the Philistines shivered and recognised that the Lord were amidst them! The Israelites realised their real strength was the Lord. You are my strength, my fortress, my rock of refuge - expressed the Psalmist later. 

People saw this true in Jesus too. If you wish to, you can cure me, said the man to Jesus, realising the source of grace and salvation is in the mighty will of God. God's will saves us, protects us and guides us. All that we need to do is to allow ourselves to be guided, to be strengthened, to be fortified by the Lord. 

We need to rise from a style of life that is a mere damage-control, to a more proactive responsible living. When we realise the presence of God ever in our midst, we will live a life that is worthy of the Lord and the Lord's will; and that alone can keep us from becoming mere laughing stock among the people! 

Let us live up to our call, our vocation - that of being sons and daughters of God.

சனவரி 10: பேசும் இறைவா

இறைசித்தம் நிறைவேற்றுவதே நம் அழைப்பு   

பேசும் இறைவா அடியேன் கேட்கின்றேன் என்னும் அந்த அழகான வார்த்தைகளை ஏலி சாமுவேலுக்கு கற்பிக்கும் நிகழ்ச்சியை இன்று தியானிக்கின்றோம். பல பணிகள் புரிவது சுற்றியுள்ள அனைவருக்கும் நன்மை புரிவது...இவை எல்லாம் மிக அழகானவை. ஆனால் நம் வாழ்வின் நாட்கள் மிக குறைவு... நன்மைகளை செய்வது மட்டுமே ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவருக்கு போதாது...இறைவனின் சித்தத்தை செய்யும் மனம் வேண்டும். 

நன்மைகள் செய்வதில் வரும் பாராட்டும் புகழும் மற்றவரிடமிருந்து கிடைக்கும் நற்பெயரும் சில சமயங்களில் நம்மை பாதை மாற செய்யும். செய்வது நானாக இருந்தாலும் செய்விப்பது இறைவன் என்று நாம் உணர்ந்து செய்தால் பல வகையான குழப்பங்களை தவிர்க்க இயலும். 

ஒரு குழுவாக சேர்ந்து நற்காரியங்களில் ஈடுபடுதலோ, அல்லது பங்கு அன்பியம் என  பொதுவான நற்செயல்களில் ஈடுபடுதலோ சில நேரங்களில் சண்டைகளிலும் புரிந்து கொள்ளாமையிலும், பொறாமையிலும் முடிவதற்கான காரணம் என்ன என்று சிந்தித்து பாருங்கள். நான் என்ற எண்ணம், என்  திறமை எனது ஆற்றல் என்ற எண்ணம் - இவையே அல்லவா? 

கிறிஸ்துவின் பணிகள் மக்களுக்காகவே இருந்தாலும் அவரது மனம் முழுதும் இறைவனின் சித்தத்தை செய்வதாகவே இருந்தது. மக்களின் பாராட்டுக்களும், அவர்களது பாசமும் அவரை கட்டிப்போட எண்ணினாலும், அவர் அதையெல்லாம் தாண்டி இறைவனின் சித்தத்தை சிரமேற்கொண்டு தொடர்ந்து நடக்கலானார் என்று காண்கிறோம். இவரை விட ஆழமான எடுத்துக்காட்டு இருக்க முடியுமா? 

பேசும் இறைவா அடியேன் கேட்கின்றேன் என்ற வார்த்தைகள் ஆழமாய் நம் மனங்களில் பதியட்டும்.

TO DO GOOD - is that really enough?

Wednesday, 1st week in Ordinary Time

1 Sam 3:1-10.19-20; Mk 1:29-39

Preaching, healing, casting the demons out - Jesus went around doing good! But he was personally conscious that doing good was not good enough! When the disciples scout to find him and the people try to possess him for themselves, he insists that he needs to move on. Doing good was good; but more important for him was doing what God wanted of him. 

We get lost sometimes in the frenzy of doing good to as many as possible... not really bothering whether we are doing really what God wants of us! Obedience to Eli and service in the temple was something good... but God was calling Samuel for something higher: to listen to the Lord and speak the Lord's word to the people! 

When doing good alone becomes our concern, a lot of problematic elements like the fame-game, the ego-trips and rat-races find their way easily in. If we are convinced of doing what God wants of us, we will surely find serenity even amidst the worst of situations. But for that, we need to learn to say everyday: 'Speak Lord, your servant is listening!'

சனவரி 9: இறைவனை புகழும் ஆன்மிக திறன்

ஆன்மிக திறனாளிகளாய் வளர்வோம் 

இறைவனை புகழ்வதென்பது ஒரு ஆன்மிக திறன் என்று உணர்ந்திருக்கின்றீர்களா? அறிவுத்திறன், உணர்ச்சித்திறன், இவ்வரிசையில் ஆன்மிக திறனும் அறிந்து வளர்க்கப்பட வேண்டும். நம்மில் எதனை பேர் இதை அறிந்திருக்கின்றோம்? இறைவனின் அரும்பெரும் செயல்களை வாழ்வின் பெரும் தருணங்களில் மட்டுமல்ல பொதுவான தருணங்களிலும், அன்றாட அனுபவங்களிலும் காணும் திறனே இதற்கு அடிப்படை. ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் செல்லும் சாலைகளில், ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் சந்திக்கும் மனிதர்களில், ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் நமக்கென பிறர் செய்யும் சின்னஞ்சிறு செயல்களில் என்று எல்லாவற்றிலும் இறைவனின் மாட்சிமிகு கரங்களை பார்ப்பது ஒரு திறனாக தானே இருக்க வேண்டும். 

என் ஆன்மா இறைவனை ஏற்றி போற்றுகின்றது என்று மரியன்னை பாடிய பாடலின் முன்னோடியை இன்று பதிலுரை பாடலாய் கொண்டுள்ளோம். மரியன்னை தனது ஆன்மிக திறனில் வளர சாமுவேலின் தாய் பாடிய அந்த பாடல் உதவியது. தனது பிற்கால தலைமுறைகள் ஆன்மிக திறனில் வளர தனது அனுபவத்தை பகிரும் அன்னாளை போல நாம் நமது அடுத்த தலைமுறைகளுக்கு அனுபவத்தை பகிர்ந்துகொள்கின்றோமா?

அன்றாட அனுபவங்களில் இறைவனை காணும் திறன் இருந்துவிட்டால் நமது வாழ்வில் எந்த அனுபவமும் நம்மை அசைத்துவிட முடியாது என்பதை உணர அழைக்கின்றது இறைவார்த்தை. அன்று கிறிஸ்து வாழ்ந்த போது அசுத்த ஆவிகளுக்கும்  பேய்களுக்கும் கூட இருந்த அந்த திறன் சுற்றி நின்ற பலருக்கு இல்லாமல் போயிற்று. இறுதிவரை இவர் யார், இவர் யார் என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டே இருந்தார்களே தவிர உண்மையில் அவரை கண்டுகொள்ளவில்லை. ஏன்? அவர்களுக்கு அந்த திறன் இல்லாமல் இருந்ததா? அதை அவர்கள் வளர்த்துக்கொள்ள முயற்சிக்கவில்லை என்பதே  உண்மை. 

அவர்களுக்கு என ஒரு சிந்தனை, அவர்களுக்கு என ஒரு உலகம், அவர்களுக்கு என ஒரு விளக்கம் என்று கண் முன்பே நடக்கும் புதுமைகளை எல்லாம் தவறவிட்டுக்கொண்டு இருந்தார்கள். நம் வாழ்விலும், நடப்பதெல்லாம் இறைவனின் சித்தத்தின் படியே நடக்கிறது என்று சிந்தித்து பாருங்கள், வாழ்வை பற்றிய உங்களது கண்ணோட்டமே  மாறும். 

தவறுகள் நடந்தால் இறைவன் பொறுப்பு... நன்மைகள் நடந்தால் அது என் படைப்பு என்று நாம் சிந்தித்தால் நம் வாழ்வின் உட்பொருளே விளங்காமல் போய்விடும். இன்று அதுவே உலகம் முழுவதும் நடந்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

ஆன்மிக திறனாளிகளாய் வளர்வோம் வாருங்கள்.

The Capacity to magnify the Lord

Tuesday, 1st week in Ordinary Time
1 Sam 1:9-20; Mk 1:21-28

It is a spiritual capacity to magnify the Lord, to exult in the glories of the Lord! The responsorial psalm presents to us the precedent of the famous magnificat sung by Mary in the gospel according to Luke: the hymn of praise and thanksgiving sung by Hannah, who realised the goodness of the Lord to her!

It is a special capacity to realise God's hand in things that happen in our daily life. Even what was so apparent to the demons, who recognised Jesus and proclaimed him as Christ, was so difficult for the people to understand! Till the end they were only amazed and kept asking who Jesus could really be! 

When things go wrong we spontaneously look to the Lord and demand for answers. But when things remain normal and calm, how ready are we to see the hand of God, and praise the magnificence of the Lord! If we are ready to believe that there are no coincidences in life, we will witness mighty miracles on a daily basis!

Look out for daily miracles in your personal and family life!
