மார்ச் 3: யார் ஊதாரி?

அளவில்லாத இரக்கத்தை பெற்றுக்கொள்ள நீ தயாரா?

இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில் கிறிஸ்து கூறும் உவமையை தியானிக்கும் போதெல்லாம் என் மனதிற்கு வரும் ஒரு சிந்தனை உண்டு: உண்மையிலே யார் இங்கு ஊதாரி? கணக்கில்லாமல் பணத்தை வீணடித்த அந்த மகனா? அல்லது எந்த நிபந்தனையும் இல்லாது அன்பையும் இரக்கத்தையும் கொட்டி தீர்க்கும் அந்த தந்தையா? சற்றே பொருந்தியமர்ந்து சிந்தித்தால் நாம் அனைவருமே நமக்குள்ளாக வியக்க வேண்டிய உண்மை இது - நம் தாயும் தந்தையுமான இறைவன் நம்மீது வைத்துள்ள அன்பு தான் எவ்வளவு பெரியது, அளவிற்கடந்தது, வரையறுக்க முடியாதது! 

பழைய ஏற்பாட்டின் மக்களுக்கு இது ஏற்க முடியாத ஒன்றாகவே இருந்தது. அதை தான் முதல் வாசகம் நமக்கு சொல்லுகின்றது. பாவங்களை மன்னிக்கிறவராக, குற்றங்களை கணக்கில்கொள்ளாதவராக கடவுளை அவர்களால் புரிந்துகொள்ள இயலவில்லை. ஏன் இன்று நமக்கும் கூட அது இன்னும் புதிராகவே இருக்கிறது. மன்னிப்பின் எல்லை என்ன? எந்த அளவு வரை நாம் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடையவராக இருக்க முடியும் என்றெல்லாம் நாம் நமக்குள்ளே பல கேள்விகளை எழுப்பிய வண்ணம் தானே உள்ளோம். ஆனால் இறைவனின் உறவோ முற்றிலும் மாறுபட்டது. 

அளவில்லா அன்பிலும் எல்லையில்லா இரக்கத்திலும் ஊன்றப்பட்டது இறைவனின் உறவு. நம்மை எந்த அளவுக்கு இறைவன் அன்பு செய்கின்றார் என்று உண்மையிலேயே உணர்ந்தோம் என்றால் நாம் நமது தகுதியின்மையை ஆழமாக உணர்வோம். நமது தகுதியின்மையை நாம் உண்மையிலேயே உணர்ந்தோம் என்றால் நாம் அடுத்தவரை எத்தனை மதிப்போடும், இரக்கத்தோடும் அணுக வேண்டும் என்பதை உணர்வோம்! 

இதற்கெல்லாம் அடிப்படை, நாம் இறைவனின் அளவில்லாத அன்பை சுவைப்பதே. எந்த நிபந்தனைகளுமின்றி அதை நமக்கு இறைவன் தர தயாராக உள்ளார், ஆனால் அதை பெற்றுக்கொள்ள நாம் தயாராக இருக்கிறோமா என்று சிந்திக்க அழைக்கப்படுகின்றோம். நீங்கள் தயாரா?

Revive your humility!

Saturday, 2nd week in Lent: 3rd March, 2018.

Mic 7: 14-15, 18-20; Lk 15: 11-32

I have always loved this version of the interpretation which says it was not as much the Son who was prodigal with his money as the Father who was prodigal with his mercy. I love it not merely because it sounds rather novel,  but because that seems more likely the point that Jesus wanted to draw - the unconditional and limitless mercy of God. 

The first reading brings out the fact of how strange it sounded to the Old Testament people that God would endlessly forgive! It still sounds strange to many, why even to us sometimes. We do not really grasp that logic though we pretend as if we comprehend it. If only we truly understand it, we would be totally humbled and heart broken!

God offers to cast our sins deep in the ocean,  the ocean of God's  love and mercy. The Word invites us to focus on the right perspective of Christian living... an optimism of continual renewal and unconditional acceptance. Oh how blessed and loved we are!

If only we realise how much we are forgiven, how much we are loved, how much we are cared for by the Almighty, we would grow more and more humble, open and all-embracing. All the we need to do is realise how undeservedly blessed we are! That needs a lot of humility. 

So, let us revive our humility!
