Love - the Father's Perfection

Tuesday, 11th week in Ordinary Time

June 19, 2018 - 1 Kgs 21: 17-29; Mt 5: 43-48

Coming to the end of the Beatitudes, Jesus today summarises the beatitudes into just one evocation: be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect. And what does that perfection consist of? The essence of it is Love, an unconditional love, a limitless love, a non-judgmental love that respects the inner self of a person and the person's true intentions!

The first reading is an extreme type of an example for God's love and mercy. As the psalms and other books in the Old Testament describe, God always manifested Godself to be slow to anger, abounding in love, ready to forgive and longing to remain in relationship with humanity. Though Ahab's acts were so gruesome, the mere fact that he repented for those and felt sorry for his foolishness, turned the entire issue upside down. Ahab finds favour in the eyes of God, Ahab becomes lovable all over again.

The message is pretty clear. For us too, the merciful Lord awaits and awaits with an ever burning love, to get us all back into Lord's own embrace for eternity. But this getting back will not happen automatically. It needs more attention to basics through developing traits such as personal integrity, spiritual identity and sense of belonging to the Reign. Above all these we are challenged today to possess the epitome of Christian living: Love, the Father's Perfection!

ஜூன் 19: அன்பு - இறைமையின் நிறைவு

நல்லோர் மீதும் தீயோர் மீதும் - மழையும் வெயிலும் போல

மலைப்பொழிவின் இறுதியை அடையும் போது கிறிஸ்து தான் கூறியவற்றிற்கெல்லாம் ஒரே எடுத்துக்காட்டாய், ஒரே முன் மாதிரியாய் தனது தந்தையும் நமது தந்தையுமான இறைவனையே நமக்கு முன் நிறுத்துகிறார். இதை ஒரே வாக்கியத்தில் சுருக்கிவிடுகிறார்: உங்கள் வானக தந்தை நிறைவுள்ளவராய் இருப்பது போல நீங்களும் நிறைவுள்ளவராய் இருங்கள். இந்த நிறைவை நாம் எப்படி புரிந்து கொள்வது? ஒரே வார்த்தை - அன்பு! இறைமையின் நிறைவு அன்பே! நிபந்தனைகள் அற்ற அன்பு, தீர்ப்பிடாத அன்பு, அளவற்ற அன்பு, வெளி தோற்றங்களை கடந்து சென்று உள்ளத்தில் உள்ளதை அறிந்து பிறக்கின்ற அன்பு.

இறைவன் இந்த அன்பின் இலக்கணமாய் இருக்கிறார் என்பதற்கு முதல் வாசகம் ஆணித்தரமானதோர் எடுத்துக்காட்டாய் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. திருப்பாடல்களும், மற்ற இறைவார்த்தையின் நூல்களும் நமக்கு அவ்வப்போது நினைவுறுத்துவது போல இறைவன் சினத்துக்கு இடம்கொடாதவர், அன்பினால் நிரம்பியவர், அன்பே உருவானவர். ஆகாபின் வாழ்க்கையும் செயல்பாடுகளும் அருவறுக்கத்தக்கதாக இருந்திருந்தாலும், பாவம் நிரம்பியதாக இருந்தாலும், அவரின் அடிமனதில் இருந்த நன்மையை மனதிற்கொண்டு இறைவன் அவரை தொடர்ந்து அன்பு செய்கிறார், மன்னிக்கிறார், திருத்துகிறார், நல்வழிபடுத்துகிறார். 

நமக்கு வழங்கப்படும் செய்தி தெளிவாய் ஒலிக்கிறது. இறைவனின் இரக்கமும் அன்பும் நம்மை தேடி வருகிறது. அவரது பிள்ளைகளாய் அவருக்கு உரியவர்களாய் வாழ இறைவன் நம்மை அழைத்த வண்ணமே உள்ளார்...  ஆனால் இது தானாக நடந்திடாது. நாம் அவருக்குரியவர்களாக, அவருக்கு தகுந்தவர்களாக, அவரது உருவை தாங்கியவர்களாக தொடர்ந்து நம்மையே வளர்த்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும். இதற்கு நமக்கு உள்ள இன்றியமையாத வழி: இறைமையின் நிறைவை நோக்கி செல்லுதல். இறைமையின் நிறைவு அன்பே! அந்த அன்பு இருந்தால் மட்டுமே நாம் பேருபெற்றவர்கள், இறைவனுக்கு உரியவர்கள், அவரது பிள்ளைகள், அவரது மக்கள். அன்பே கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்வின் நிறைவு, இறைமையின் நிறைவு!
