சனவரி 31: வழக்கமானவைகளில் இறைவனை காண

தவறுதலும் தவறவிடுதலும் இயல்பே எனினும்...

தவறுதல், பாவம் செய்தல், நம் குறைகளில் வீழ்தல் என்பன இயல்பான அனுபவங்கள் தான். எனினும் விழுந்த தவறிலேயே இருப்பேன் என்று எண்ணுதல் இறைவனின் பிள்ளைகள் என்ற நிலைக்கு ஒவ்வாததாகும். தாவீது இறைவனின் தேர்ந்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட மகனாக இருந்தும் தவறுகள் செய்தார், அதை திரும்ப திரும்பவும் செய்தார். அனால் அதன் பின்விளைவுகளை சந்தித்த போது தன் பிழையை உணர்ந்துகொண்டார். பல வேளைகளில் இப்படியே, என்றும் நம்மோடு இருக்கும் இறைவனை மறந்துவிட்டு ஏதாவது குழப்பத்தை நமக்கே வருவித்துக்கொண்ட பிறகு அவரை தேடி அலறியடித்து செல்வதை நாம் வழக்கமாகவே கொண்டுள்ளோம். 

இயேசுவின் வாழ்வில் நடந்த அனுபவத்தை பாருங்கள்... இறைமகன் அவர்களோடு இருப்பதை அவர்களால் உணரக்கூட முடியவில்லை. ஏனெனில் இயேசு யார் என்று அவர்கள் அளவுக்கு அதிகமாய் அறிந்திருந்தார்கள். இவ்வளவு சாதாரணமானவரா இறைவனின் மகனாக இருக்க முடியும்? இவர் தச்சனின் மகன் அல்லவா...வழக்கமான சாமானிய மனிதன் அல்லவா என்று புத்திசாலித்தனமாக தங்களுக்குள்ளே சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள். அந்த வழக்கமானவற்றில் தான் இறைவனை தவறவிட்டுவிட்டார்கள்.

இறைவனின் ஆழ்ந்த பிரசன்னம் எல்லா வேளைகளிலும் நம்மோடே உள்ளது என்பதை நாம் அறிந்து புரிந்து உணர்ந்து வாழ அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம். நமது வழக்கமான நாட்களில், அனுதின அனுபவங்களில், சாதாரண மனிதர்களில், ஆரவாரமற்ற நிகழ்வுகளில் இறைவனையும், இறைவனின் செய்தியையும் தேடி சந்திக்க கற்றுக்கொள்வோம். இல்லையெனில் தாவீதை போல நேரம் தாழ்ந்த பிறகே உணர்ந்து வருந்துவோம். 

வழக்கமானவை என்று நாம் கருதும் எல்லா சூழலையும் மனிதர்களையும் மதிப்போடு அணுகிப்பார்ப்போம், இறைவனை கண்டுகொள்வோம். 

To behold the Lord in the Ordinariness of Life

Wednesday, 4th week in Ordinary Time

2 Sam 24: 2,8-17; Mk 6: 1-6

Falling into sin, giving into our imperfections, are a common human experience. The most problematic experience is when we have fallen and we do not want to get out of it. David was a chosen one of God. He was blessed with experiences and graces that no one else had been blessed with... but he falls and he falls repeatedly. 

When things go wrong and miseries come his way he realises his folly. The Lord's grace is ever present with us - but it is possible that we do not realise it or we refuse to behold it in our obstinacy. 

The ordinariness of Jesus was an obstacle for the people to accept the great things that he was upto. They were not ready to notice or behold anything divine in Jesus, because they knew him too well! They were fixated in their idea that the ordinariness in which God's glory was set to shine, did not appeal to them.

It is important that we learn to behold the Lord's graceful presence, in the ordinariness of our lives; if not, it will be too late when we realise it, as it happens to David. Let us resolve to be ready and eager to behold the presence of the Lord in the ordinariness of our days. 

சனவரி 30: வித்தியாசமானவர்களாய் ...

கடவுளின் கண்ணோட்டத்திலிருந்து வாழ்ந்து பழகு 

சில நேரங்களில் சிலர் வித்தியாசமானவர்களாய் தோன்றுவதுண்டு. இன்று தாவீது அவருடன் இருந்தவர்களுக்கு அவ்வாறே தோன்றுகிறார். தாவீதை கொள்ளவேண்டுமென துடித்த அவரது மகன் அப்சலோம் போரிலே இறந்த செய்தி தாவீதையும் அவருடன் இருந்தோரையும் வந்து சேருகின்றது! ஒரு எதிரி ஒழிந்தான் என்று அவர்கள் கூடி கொண்டாட, தாவீதோ கண்கலங்கி மாளா துக்கத்தில் ஆழ்ந்துவிடுகிறார். 

கிறிஸ்துவும் சற்று வித்தியாசமாகவே இன்று தோன்றுகின்றார். எங்கு நோக்கினும் மக்கள் கூட்டமாய் இருக்க எல்லா பக்கங்களிலிருந்தும் உரசலும் அழுத்தமுமாய் இருக்க, என்னை யார் தொட்டது என்று இயேசு கேட்கும் கேள்வி சற்று அர்த்தமற்றதாய் வித்தியாசமானதாய் தான் தோன்றியிருக்கும். இறந்த சிறுமியின் அறைக்குள் செல்லும் முன் அவள் இறக்க வில்லை தூங்குகிறாள் என்று அவர் கூறியது இறக்கும் போது உடன் இருந்தவர்களுக்கு வித்தியாசமானதாக தான் இருந்திருக்கும். 

ஆனால் மற்றவர்களிடமெல்லாம் இல்லாத ஒன்று, மற்றவர்கள் எல்லாம் காண தவறிய ஒன்று, மற்றவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் தோன்றாத ஒன்று கிறிஸ்துவிடமும் தாவீதிடமும் இருந்தது என்பதே இதற்கு காரணம். கடவுளின் கண்ணோட்டத்திலிருந்து அனைத்தையும் பார்க்கும் திறனே அது!  

தன்னை கொள்ள நினைத்த ஒருவன் இறந்திருந்தாலும், கடவுளின் கண்ணோட்டத்திலிருந்து பார்த்த தாவீதுக்கு கடவுள் அளித்த கொடையாம் ஒரு மகனை இழந்தது தான் தெரிந்தது. அந்த நோயுற்ற பெண் இயேசுவை தொட்டபோது எந்த அன்போடும், எதிர்நோக்கோடும், நம்பிக்கையோடும் தொட்டாரோ அது இயேசுவுக்கு தெளிவாய் தென்பட்டது, அதை மற்றவர்கள் அறிந்திருக்க வாய்ப்பு இல்லைதான். அந்த இறந்த பெண்ணை கடவுளின் காணோட்டத்திலிருந்து பார்த்த போது ஒரு இறந்த உடலாக அல்ல ஆனால் இறைவனின் மகிமை வெளிப்பட ஒரு மாபெரும் வாய்ப்பாகவே அவருக்கு தென்பட்டது. 

நம் வாழ்வின் வெற்றி தோல்விகளையும், இன்ப துன்பங்களையும், தடைகளையும் தடங்களையும், சோதனைகளையும் வாய்ப்புகளையும், அல்லல்களையும்  எல்லா அனுபவங்களையும் இறைவனின் கண்ணோட்டத்தில் காணக் கற்றுக்கொண்டால் நமது வாழ்வு வேறுபட்டே தோன்றும்... அடுத்தவருக்கு வித்தியாசமானதாகவும், நமக்கு உன்னதமாயும் தோன்றும். இறைவனின் கண்ணோட்டத்திலிருந்து வாழ்வை வாழ தொடங்குவோம், வித்தியாசமானவர்களாய் வாழ்வை அணுகுவோம்... இறைவன் நம்மோடே!

Does not matter if you appear strange!

WORD 2day: 30th January, 2018

Tuesday, 4th week in Ordinary Time

2 Sam 18: 9-10,14,24-25,30-19:3; Mk 5: 21-43

Sometimes we might appear 'strange'. David does, in today's first reading! To those with David, it seemed well deserved that Absalom met with such an end for all that he had done to David; but for David, it was unbearable; he cries inconsolably. He appears strange for the people who wanted to celebrate the victory. 

Jesus looks strange, when he asks who is that who touched him, when there was a whole multitude that was crushing him! He appears strange when he tells those people at Jairus' house, 'the child is sleeping.' In fact, the disciple expressed their surprise and the people ridiculed him. 

There is an element here that those around did not see, which made it natural for Jesus (and David) but, for the people it was strange. The element is, the capacity to see everything from the eyes of God and feel everything from the perspective of God! 

When David looked at it from the perspective of God, it was his loving child who was dead! When Jesus felt the touch from the perspective of God, it was a touch of intense prayer and when He saw the child on the death bed, it was God's glory yet to be revealed.

When we look at our own successes, failures, difficulties, trials, temptations and struggles from the eyes of God - they will have completely different meanings - 'strange' for others, 'miracles' for ourselves! Begin to live your life from the perspective of God, it does not matter if you appear strange!

30th January, 2018: Don Bosco - A Man who lives on in his holiness 

Our Challenge: That we come to understand our special calling from the Lord, live our life to the full and march ahead towards sanctity

Our Prayer:

Lord God, thank you for Don Bosco, a man who lives on even today in his holiness, even after 130 years of his death. You gave him the grace to realise his special calling and dedicate his entire life for the salvation of the young. Grant that we may be attentive to the Spirit that we may understand our calling, feel your inspiration and march with determination towards sanctity, by serving those to whom you send us. We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen

சனவரி 29: இகழ்வோரும் புகழ்வோரும்

இறைவனின் சித்தத்தை மட்டுமே நம்பி இரு  

உங்களை சுற்றி பாருங்கள் - எங்கு நோக்கினும் இகழ்வோரும், புகழ்வோரும், புகழ்வது போல் இகழ்வோரும், நன்மையே கருதுவது போல அழிவை எண்ணுவோரும், துயரம் வருவிப்போரும் சூழ்ந்தே உள்ளனர். இத்தகைய சூழலில் இறைவனுக்கு உகந்த மக்களாய் எப்படி வாழ்வது என்ற பாடத்தை தாவீது நமக்கு கற்பிக்கிறார். அரசனாக இருந்தாலும் தன்னை பழித்தவனை, சபித்தவனை எதிர்த்து ஏதும் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற தேவையே தாவீதுக்கு எழவில்லை. அவன் சபித்தால் என்ன சபிக்காவிட்டால் என்ன... இறைவனின் சித்தம் எதுவோ அதுவே எனக்கு வாழ்வு, என்று தெளிவுப்படுத்துகின்றார் தாவீது. அவரல்லவோ உண்மையான கடவுளின் பிள்ளை?

நான் யாருக்கும் எந்த தீங்கும் செய்யவில்லையே, என்னை போய் இப்படி பேசிவிட்டார்களே! ஊர் என்ன சொல்லும், உறவென்ன சொல்லும், பார்ப்பவர்கள் என்ன சொல்லுவார்கள், இந்த உலகமென்ன சொல்லும் என்றெல்லாம் புலம்பி பிதற்றும் அறிவற்ற மானுடங்களான நமக்கு தாவீது தரும் பாடம் இது. 

தாவீது மட்டுமல்ல இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவும் அதையே தான் நமக்கு இன்று செய்தியாக தருகிறார். நீ இறைவனின் மகன், மெசியா  என்றெல்லாம் பேய்கள் புகழ்ந்த போது தன்னை மறந்து விண்வெளியில் பறக்கவில்லை கிறிஸ்து! அமைதியாயிரு! இவரைவிட்டு வெளியே போ என்று அந்த பேய்களையெல்லாம் அடக்கவே செய்தார். அதேபோல், அந்த ஊர் மக்கள் அவரை தங்கள் ஊரை விட்டு வெளியேற சொன்னபோது, நான் நல்லது தானே செய்தேன்... இந்த ஊரில் உள்ளவர்கள் ஏன் என்னை வெளியேற சொல்கிறார்கள்? அவர்களது பன்றிகள் அவர்களுக்கு அவ்வளவு முக்கியமாகிவிட்டதா என்றெல்லாம் கிறிஸ்து ஒரு கேள்வியும் எழுப்பவில்லை. ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாவிடில் நான் செல்கிறேன்...அதற்காக நான் அழுது புலம்பி என் வாழ்வை மாய்த்துக்கொள்ள மாட்டேன் - ஏனெனில் எனக்கு தேவை, இறைவனின் சித்தம்.

நான் எங்கு செல்ல வேண்டும், என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும், எதை சொல்ல வேண்டும், எதை தேர்ந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பதையெல்லாம் முடிவு செய்பவர் இறைவனே, என்னை இகழ்வாரோ புகழ்வாரோ அல்ல, என்பதில் நாம் தெளிவாக இருந்தாலொழிய இறைவனின் பிள்ளைகள் என்று நம்மையே அழைத்துக்கொள்ள முடியாது! 

CURSES OR PRAISES - A CHRISTIAN FOCUS

Monday, 4th week in Ordinary Time

2 Sam 15: 13-14, 30, 16: 5-13; Mk 5: 1-20

Isn't it everyone's experience that we come across some person or persons, who curse us, wish us ill and hold grudges against us? Today David demonstrates to us what should be the ideal response to such an experience. At times we get so worried, pulled down, discouraged, depressed, desperate, angered or crest fallen at such moments. 

Real faith would inspire us to do the contrary - that we remain calm, composed, clear, courageous and focused on God and God alone! Especially when we go out of our way to do something more than the ordinary, or involve in a public concern, there can be more opportunities of criticism and derision; let not our focus be lost! Let nothing move you, says St. Paul (1 Cor 15:58). 

It is equally true of a vain glory, or a cheap flattery! When the evil spirits start proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God, Jesus is not carried away by the adulation. He casts them away and sends them to where they belong! As that man who was possessed, returns to "his right mind", so are we called to remain ever in our senses. 

Only a right understanding of our faith, an uninterrupted focus on God and on doing God's will, can keep us in that right mind. When we sense a moment that tends to get the better of us, let this be our prayer: Lord, rise up and save me!

NOVENA TO THE FEAST OF ST. JOHN BOSCO - DAY 8

29th January, 2018: Don Bosco - A Man with Divine qualities 

Our Challenge: That we as persons entrusted with youth in our care, can see through the hearts of the youth to accompany them and as youth, to be open to the divine guidance.

Our Prayer:

Lord God, thank you for Don Bosco, a man who could see through the hearts of the youth in order that he could accompany them. May our love for the young, be as strong as his, that we may see, hear and understand the exact needs of the young, leading them to the salvation you have prepared. Grant us the grace to be sensitive to every one around us bringing them to feel your tender loving care. We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen

ABSOLUTE ALLEGIANCE TO THE ALMIGHTY

4th Sunday in the Ordinary Time

Dt 18: 15-20; 1Cor 7: 32-35; Mk 1: 21-28

It was a home for street kids. As I entered, a calendar caught my attention. It had the words running thus: with the young missionaries of hope and joy. I hoped to see some young religious in formation or some people getting ready to go on a mission. But the picture that accompanied it was more surprising. It was a click of a bunch of street kids with eyes all shining and faces beaming with smiles. They had called them 'missionaries of hope and joy'. Today's first reading came alive to me when I saw this. When the Lord said,  the Lord would raise a prophet as good as moses and that prophet was not only Jesus who did great wonders when he was still alive but in and through Jesus,  it is you and I who are called to be prophets today, here and now. 

The second reading points to us the way of being powerful prophets of God...and the way is,  an absolute allegiance to the almighty. To profess our allegiance to God with nothing to distract us,  nothing to preoccupy us,  nothing to hinder our speaking God's word or doing God's works. There is a saying in Tamil that says, only when you have something to safeguard under your care, you have anything to fear. When you have nothing to lose, you have nothing to fear. These kind of persons are true prophets!

  

The Gospel presents to us the model par excellence of a prophet of God: the very Son of God who professes and practices such a perfect allegiance to God that every one who saw him,  heard him was either taken up or threatened.   He had nothing to lose, because all that mattered to him was doing his Father's will. Neither the powerful high priests and scribes, nor Herod not even the demons could frighten him - what an absolute man of God! His was an authority that came from his personal integrity and flawless faithfulness to God. 

Our absolute allegiance to the almighty will make us like children who trust and depend totally on their parents. At times even a blind following of the directions given by God would suffice for us to work on our Sanctification and that of those around us.

28th January, 2018: Don Bosco - A lover of the young

Our Challenge: That we understand our call to love the young, those in our care, those who depend on our goodness 

Our Prayer:

Lord God, thank you for Don Bosco, a man who loved what the young loved, in order to make them love what they ought to love. Like Don Bosco, grant us the grace to place always the needs of the others, especially those who depend on us in some way, before any of our needs. May we be sacrificing enough to give up anything for their good and for their salvation. We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen
