Recognising the wells of Salvation

Wednesday, 29th Week in Ordinary time 

October 24, 2018: Ephesians 3: 2-12; Luke 12: 39-48

Jesus continues his instruction as to how we need to be prepared for that hour of reckoning at any point of time in our life. In fact Jesus is ridiculing all the funny discussions and calculations about when that hour will come - some self proclaimed eschatological quacks make much ado of the end and its timings and miss the entire point that Jesus is driving home here.  Picking the cue from them, there are those who speak as if they know everything under the sun, or even above it! 

Recently, I happened to waste my time on a video circulated of a saffron clad pantomath saying, "they have been claiming for the past 2000 years that Christ will come today and tomorrow, but he has not come! Neither Christ or Mohammad or Jehovah will ever come!" The simpleton just did not realise, Christ is here, right here living amidst us and he need not come from elsewhere! Christ is a mystery and no one can understand it; one can only experience or live that mystery!

So, do not look at the Second Coming as a day or as a moment when everything will come to a stand still and there will be an UFO coming down from the sky... give up on that crap! And thinking of the time and the hour and predicting it with such precisions... let us grow up, please! 

No matter when and where,  you know what to do and why to do it. Take care how you do it - not seeking human attention but going by merely God's approval. The wells of Salvation are within you! The Lord has placed God's word and God's law within you. You know it when it is right and you see it when it is wrong. You don't need an external apparatus for this recognition. The internal system of convictions and criteria that makes me draw inspiration and direction from within me... doing nothing but good, speaking nothing but good,  thinking nothing but good, no matter how unlikely the returns are, or what the consequences would be. These are the wells of salvation - we better begin to recognise them within us and live our life in grace! 

The Fear of Examinations ?!?

Tuesday, 29th week in Ordinary time

October 23, 2018: Eph 2:12-22; Lk 12: 35-38

All of us have had, or have still, a fear of examinations! And the usual remedy proposed by teachers is, learn your subjects on a daily basis, revise your classes everyday and when the exams come you will be better prepared. The point is, examinations are not something for which we need to prepare, they are just an end of a process of learning. At times when we do not have the right study attitudes, the exams become a separate entity and a great hurdle to be crossed and not merely a formality to be undergone. Now, that was not for a Study-skill session...but to bring out the crux of today's message.

Yesterday we reflected upon the free and precious gift of life that we have been presented with by the Lord. Today, the Word reminds us of another gift and that is, our Identity! The Lord has chosen us and given us an identity that is entirely a grace: the identity of being the people of God, of being the offsprings of God, of being God's beloved children. 

When we are conscious of the identity that we possess as children of God, on a daily basis and conduct our affairs accordingly, we would not need to prepare, or be afraid of, or fret about what is called the judgment moment! In fact every choice that we make is a judgement we bring on ourselves... whether it is monitored or not; when I know that I am a child of God, that I am a son or daughter of God and I live, believe and behave worthy of that identity, why should I fear and what should I fear? 

It is like the Master who was asked as he was having his cup of tea, 'what would you do, if the world ends this moment?' The Master said: "I will continue having my tea." Yes... live on... live everyday... live to the full... live your identity and you shall have fear of no examination whatsoever! 

சிறுபிள்ளைகளின் தேர்வு பயம்

அக்டோபர் 23, 2018: எபேசியர் 2:12-22; லூக்கா 12: 35-38

நம்மில் அனைவருமே ஏதோ ஒரு காலகட்டத்தில் அல்லது இப்போதும் கூட தேர்வை கண்டு அஞ்சுவதுண்டு. படிக்கும் பிள்ளைகள் மட்டுமல்ல, வேறு நிலைகளிலும் கூட தேர்வு என்றால் ஒருவிதமான கலக்கம் இருக்கத்தான் செய்கிறது. தேர்வு பயம் போக்க ஆசிரியர்கள் தவறாமல் கூறும் தலையாய வழிகள் - அன்றாட பாடங்களை அன்றன்று படித்து முடிப்பது; ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் அன்றைய வகுப்பை குறித்து மறு ஆய்வு செய்து கொள்வது; இவ்வாறு செய்தால் தேர்வு வரும்போது அந்த நபர் ஏற்கனவே தயாராக இருக்கமுடியும் என்பதே! தேர்வு என்பது கற்கும் கல்வியின் முடிவிலே நாம் கற்றுக்கொண்டவற்றை சீர்தூக்கி பார்க்கவே தவிர, அதற்காக மட்டுமே ஆண்டு முழுவதும் நாம் தயாரித்துக்கொண்டு இருப்பதாய் எண்ணிவிட கூடாது. தேர்வை மட்டுமே முன்னிறுத்தி நடக்கும் ஒரு தயாரிப்பு உண்மையான கல்வியாக முடியாது. தேர்வுகளை மையப்படுத்தி அல்ல அன்றாடம் கற்கும் பாடங்களை மையப்படுத்தியே கல்வி அமைய வேண்டும். இங்கு ஏதோ படிக்கும் திறன் குறித்த வகுப்பு எடுப்பதாக நினைத்துவிட வேண்டாம். இன்றைய இறைவார்த்தையும் இதையொட்டியே இன்று பேசுகிறது. 

தேர்வு பயம் போலவே பலரை இறுதி தீர்வு பயமும் ஆட்கொண்டுவிடுகிறது. அதை நாம் எப்படி எதிர்கொள்வது?

நேற்று வாழ்வு என்னும் கொடையை குறித்து சிந்தித்தோம், இன்று மற்றொரு சிறப்பான கொடையை குறித்து சிந்திக்க அழைக்க படுகிறோம்... நமது அடையாளம்! ஆம் வாழ்வு என்னும் கொடையை நாம் கேட்காமலே நமக்கு வாரிவழங்கியுள்ள இறைவன், நமக்கென ஒரு அடையாளத்தையும் கொடையாய் தந்துள்ளார். அவரது உருவையும் சாயலையும் தாங்கியவர்களாய், அவரது மக்கள், அவரது பிள்ளைகள், அவரது மகன், மகள் என்ற அடையாளத்தை நாம் பெற்றிருக்கிறோம். இந்த அடையாளம் நம் மனதில் ஆழமாய் பதிந்திருந்தால், ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் இதற்கு தகுதி உள்ளபடி வாழ நாம் முனைப்பாய் இருந்தால், நமது அன்றாட வாழ்வின் செயல்கள் முடிவுகள் அனைத்தையும் இந்த அடையாளத்திற்கு தகுதியுள்ளவைகளாய் நான் தெளிந்து தேர்ந்தால், நான் ஏன் இறுதி தீர்வை கண்டு அஞ்ச வேண்டும்?

நான் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் மேற்கொள்ளும் எனது முடிவுகள் எனது தேர்வுகள் ஒவ்வொன்றையும் எனது அடையாளத்தை மனதில் நிறுத்தி நான் மேற்கொண்டேன் என்றால், எனது சொல்லும் செயலும், வாழ்வும் வாக்கும், உள்ளமும் உறவுகளும் எனது அடையாளத்திற்கு ஏற்ப இருந்தது என்றால், நான் இறப்பை குறித்தோ, இறுதி தீர்வை குறித்தோ எந்த கவலையும் கொள்ள வேண்டியதில்லை.

ஒவ்வொரு நாளும், ஒவ்வொரு நிமிடமும், ஒவ்வொரு நொடியும் இறைவனின் அன்புமிக்க பிள்ளைகள் என்ற நமது அடையாளத்திலிருந்து தவறிவிடாமல் நாம் வாழும்போது... தேர்வோ தீர்வோ, எதைக்கண்டும் நாம் அஞ்சவேண்டாம்!

திருத்தந்தை புனித இரண்டாம் ஜான் பால் - நினைவு 

அக்டோபர் 22, 2018: எபேசியர் 2:1-10; லூக்கா 12: 13-21

வாழ்வு என்பது ஒரு கொடை, நான் கேட்காமலேயே அதற்காக உழைக்காமலேயே நமக்கு கிடைத்த ஒரு கொடை. இந்த வாழ்வு முழுமையாக முதிர்ச்சியோடு வாழப்பட வேண்டிய ஒன்று என்பது நாமறிந்ததே. ஆனால் இன்றைய சமூக போக்கை நாம் உற்று நோக்கினால் அங்கு நாளைய வாழ்வு எப்படி அமைய போகிறது என்ற கவலையிலேயே பல இன்றுகள் கடந்துவிடுவதை நாம் காண்கின்றோம்!  பலமுறை யூதன் முதலாய் ஒரு நல்ல இடத்தையோ காட்சியையோ காணும் போது அதை புகைபடமெடுத்து நாளைய நினைவுக்கு சேகரிப்பதில் நாம் காட்டும் கவனத்தை அன்று, அங்கு, அந்த நேரத்தின் மகிமையை, அழகை உள்வாங்கவோ முழுமையாய் உணர்ந்திடவோ நாம் காட்ட மறந்துவிடுகிறோம். நாளையை பற்றி கவலை பிற்காலத்தை பற்றிய பயம் பல வேளைகளில் நம் மனதில் ஆழமாய் இடம் பிடித்து உள்ள தருணத்தின் பொருளை உணராமல் தவறவிட செய்கிறது. 

ஒருமுறை ஒரு குடும்பத்தின் இரண்டு சிறுபிள்ளைகளை சந்தித்தபோது, சிறியவன் மிக மகிழ்ச்சியாகவும் பெரியவன் சற்று சோகமாகவும் இருந்ததை கவனித்தேன்... ஏன் என்று கேட்டபோது அவர்கள் சொன்ன காரணம் ஒன்று தான். அடுத்த மூன்று நாட்கள் விடுமுறை என்பதால் மகிழ்ச்சி  என்றான் சிறியவன். மூன்று நாட்கள் கழித்து பள்ளி சென்றால் தனக்கு தேர்வு என்பதால் வருத்தம் என்றான் பெரியவன். நமக்கு ஏற்படும் சில ஏமாற்றங்கள், கடினமான சூழல்கள் என்று ஒரு சிலவற்றால் இருக்கக்கூடிய பல நல்ல அனுபவங்களை நாம் முற்றிலும் விணடித்துவிடுகிறோம் அல்லவா! 

நாம் கடவுளின் கையிலிருந்து இந்த வாழ்வை கொடையாய் பெற்றிருக்கிறோம், அதை முழுதுமாய் வாழ அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம் என்பதை நாம் உண்மையிலே உணர்ந்தோமென்றால் நாளையை பற்றிய கவலைகளோ, நடக்காதது பற்றிய வருத்தங்களோ சற்று விலகி நின்று, இன்று, இந்த தருணம் ஆகியவற்றின் பொருளை நாம் புரிந்துகொள்ள இயலும். இன்று நாம் நினைவுகூரும் திருத்தந்தை இரண்டாம் ஜான் பால் உண்மையிலே ஒரு தற்காலத்திற்குரிய புனிதராவார். நமது சூழலும் அவரது சூழலும் அவ்வளவு வேறுபட்டது அல்ல. அத்தனை கட்டுப்பாடுகள், ஒடுக்குமுறைகள் நடுவே வளர்ந்தவர் அவர். ஆனால் ஒருபொழுதும் தன் நேர்மறை சிந்தனைகளை இழக்காமல், மக்களை அன்பு செய்வதிலும், சிறப்பாக இளம்சமுதாயத்தை அன்பு செய்வதிலும், இறைவனிடம் மக்களை ஈர்ப்பதிலும் தன வாழ்க்கையை முழுமையாய் அர்ப்பணித்தார். தன வாழ்வின் இறுதி நாட்களில் அவர் பட்ட துன்பங்களையெல்லாம் எப்படிப்பட்ட மனதிடத்தோடு எதிர்கொண்டார் என்பதை நம்மில் பலர் கண்கூடாக கண்டிருக்கிறோம் அன்றோ! 

இறுதியாய் விஞ்சி நிற்பது ஒரே வினா தான்: அன்பிலே இன்னும் ஆழப்பட நாம் தயாரா? இன்னும் அதிகமாக அடுத்தவருக்காக சிந்திக்க நாம் தயாரா? இன்னும் இரக்கமுள்ளவர்களாக  வளர நாம் தயாரா? இன்னும் நம் உண்மை இயல்பை உணர்ந்தவர்களாய் வாழ நாம் தயாரா? இன்னும் அதிகமாய் கடவுளுக்கு நெருங்கி வர நாம் தயாரா!

The Word and the Saint: Remembering Pope St. John Paul II

Monday, 29th week in Ordinary time
October 22, 2018: Ephesians 2:1-10; Luke 12: 13-21

The life that we have is a gift, a gratuitous gift that the Lord gives us to live! Yes, life is to be lived, lived to the full knowing well that it has been given free, absolutely free.

The tendency today is to fend so much for tomorrow, that today is totally sacrificed. People seem to be so busy photographing the present moment for memory, that they fail to live the present in its entirety. There is so much of worries about the future that we in fact are all the time living our tomorrows at the cost of today. 

I remember a funny incident where I met two boys, one happy and the other sad, but both for the same reason. The first was happy because he had three days of holidays from school; the second was sad because after three days they have to go back to school! People concentrate so much on the difficulties they have or they might have, forgetting the loads of joy that is left unattended. 

Life is given to us to live, and not to worry. If only we are convinced that we belong to God, our worries about tomorrow will be mellowed down, to allow us live our present to the full. If today we are called to render an account of our life, would we be able to say we have lived it fully? We remember today Pope St. John Paul II, a modern saint in all measures... his sanctity consisted in his love for people, specially the youth, in his capacity to draw people to God, to the Church and to holiness, in his total dedication to live his life to the full despite the conditions of control and aggression that stood around. The way he lived through his suffering the last years of his Papacy, we were many of us witnesses to it! 

The question in the final analysis is, amidst all the concerns and possible worries of life, can I become more loving?  Can I become more caring? Can I become more merciful?   Can I become more faith filled?  Can I become more human?  Can I become more godly?

LIVING THE MISSION OF HOPE

Mission Sunday 2018 - 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time 

21st October: Is 53: 10-11; Heb 4: 14-16; Mk 10: 35-45

May your love be upon us O Lord, as we place all our hope on you, we say in response to the Word this Sunday. Hope is a typically Christian value that we are filled in abundance with, when we develop a true relationship with Christ the Risen Lord. The basis of hope is faith, faith is nothing but this relationship we just referred to - a relationship that is born in recognising the Lord who communicates and responding in the way that the Lord wants me to. When this relationship goes strong, whatever comes my way, I shall not be moved or shaken or disturbed or distressed! Nothing will ever perturb me! Because, Hope says things may go wrong for a while, struggles, temptations, troubles and difficulties might come your way, but do not lose heart - for God alone is everlasting! The final word belongs always to God, to no one or nothing else! At times this becomes too difficult to understand or practice, because the world teaches us things that are diametrically opposed to these values. In fact the call to hope is actually a call to unlearn these fallacies of the world today.

Celebrating the Mission Sunday today, we are called to take to heart that we are missionaries sent into this world to hold out hope to every person on earth. Holding out hope is not an easy task... it needs a tough unlearning of  certain fallacies that the world teaches its beings ceaselessly! Unlearning these first of all within oneself and then witnessing before the others is the mission that we are called to live today. Let us not reduce the Mission Sunday to some monetary contribution we make, or things we collect or some help rendered somewhere! It is our life. We are called to live our mission of hope, the mission of unlearning and helping others to unlearn the following fallacies so widespread in the world of today. 

Fallacy 1: Life is all about happiness and pleasure

Fun, thrill, chill, freaking out, just do it... these are considered watchwords for today's generation. At times we justify everything with a statement, 'is it not to be happy after all that we do all that we do here on earth?' No! Life is not merely about happiness and pleasure. There are difficulties, there are struggles, there are sufferings that come our way and they are not just part of our life, but crucial parts of learning in life. Hence hope-filled personnel are those who are able to see beyond getting stuck to happiness and pleasure; there are various other values in life that Christ gives us and invites us to see!

Fallacy 2: I should be totally in control of my life

Planning ahead, programming things, forecasts and foretelling techniques: what are these but signs of desperate desire to be in control of things, of life and of everything that happens there in. But in spite of all these, there are times when we are caught so unaware and unprepared. Yes, life is not totally under our control but that does not mean we are at the mercy of chance! God is in control and the more we realise this, the more wise and mature we become. A hope filled person will never lose his or her cool before unexpected turns of life, because he or she knows for certain wherever life takes us, God is there with us and nothing happens without God's knowledge!

Fallacy 3: Progress is striving to dominate everyone around

In the name of success, development and progress, what the world today teaches us is that we have to look at everyone around as a competition, a threat, someone whom we have to trample upon in order to make our way! The world is getting filled with more and more insensitivity, cruelty and inhumanity. Hope filled persons shall be counter witnesses to this situation, placing persons before things, relationships before comfort, love before success and peace before progress. They are around not to be served, but to serve; not to succeed but to live meaningfully; not to climb high but to live deep. 

These might seem difficult, at times even absurd! But this is what Christ lived. He has been in every situation that we find ourselves in and he has lived a life as a perfect example of how we should. Let us look up to Christ our Hope, and stand firm in the way of life that he has taught us! Let us be hope filled persons, and fill the world with hope today, here and now!

ஒருமனப்பாடும் அர்ப்பணிப்பும்

அக்டோபர் 20, 2018: எபேசியர் 1:15-23; லூக்கா 12: 8-12

இன்றைய வார்த்தை நம்மை தந்தை, மகன், தூய ஆவியார் என்னும் நமது நம்பிக்கையின் முழுமுதல் உண்மையாம் மூவொரு இறைவனின் முன் நிறுத்துகிறது! பவுலடிகளாரும் சரி நற்செய்தியில் கிறிஸ்துவும் சரி நமக்கு மூவொரு இறைவனின் உண்மையையும் அவர் நமக்கு தரும் சவாலையும் முன் நிறுத்துகிறார்கள். மூவொரு இறைவனின் இலக்கணமாம் ஒருமனப்பாடும் அவரது இயல்பாம் அர்ப்பணிப்பும் நமக்கு சவாலாக தரப்படுகின்றன.

இன்று உலகளாவிய திருச்சபையை, அதாவது இறைவனின் மக்களை, காணும்போது ஒருவிதமான வருத்தம் நம் மனதை தழுவி கொள்கிறது. எத்தனை எத்தனை பிரச்சனைகள், பிரிவினைகள் பூசல்கள் குழப்பங்கள்... காரணம் என்ன? எல்லாமே இறைசித்ததை ஒட்டியதா? இறையரசை முன்னிறுத்தியதா? இறைவனின் மேலான மகிமையை பற்றியதா? இந்த சூழலில் தான் இன்றைய வார்த்தை நம்மை ஒருமனபாட்டிற்கு அழைக்கிறது. இது வெறும் எதிராளிகளுக்கு பயந்து ஒட்டி வாழும் வெற்று ஒற்றுமையல்ல, கூட்டுசதியும் அல்ல. ஆனால் இறையரசு என்னும் ஒரே மையத்தை, இறையாட்சி என்னும் ஒரே இலக்கை ஒன்றித்து காண்பதால் ஏற்படுகின்ற ஒருமனப்பாடு... ஒரே மனதும் ஒரே சிந்தனையும் கொண்ட மக்களாய் உருவாகும் அன்பின் நிலை! இந்த நிலையே இறையரசாகும், இறையாட்சியாகும். 

பல நேரங்களில் இது வெறும் வாய்ப்பேச்சாகவே இருந்து விடுகிறது, இதுவே பெரும் வேதனை! இறையரசு என்பது வெறும் பேச்சால் நிகழ்வதல்ல, கூட்டங்கள் மாநாடுகளால் உருவாவதல்ல... உண்மையான அர்பணிப்பால் உருவாகிறது, முழுமையான அர்பணிப்பால் மட்டுமே மலர்கிறது. துன்பங்கள், துயரங்கள், இழப்புக்கள், இடர்கள் என எதையும் பொருட்படுத்தாது அடுத்தவர் நலன், பொது நலன், மானுடம் முழுதின் நல்வாழ்வு, அண்டம் அனைத்தின் அக்கறை என்று நாம் சிந்திக்கும் போதே அர்ப்பணம் தோன்றுகிறது. இறையரசை நாம் நிறுவ நினைத்தால் இவற்றிற்கு ஒருமனதாய் நமது தேர்வை வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டும். இதுவே அர்ப்பணம். 

ஒருமனபாட்டிலும் உண்மை அர்ப்பணத்திலும் வளர முயல்வோம், இறையரசை நம் மத்தியிலே நிறுவி வாழ்வோம்!

Communion and Commitment: Father, Son and the Spirit

Saturday, 28th week in Ordinary time

October 20, 2018: Ephesians 1: 15-23; Luke 12: 8-12

The Word today presents to us the three dimensions of our faith: the three Persons of the Trinity, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. What is presented by them together is a wonderful lesson for the situation today: loving communion and mutual commitment. 

Looking at the Church, the people of God world over today, there is so much discord! Why? Is it purely the Reign of God that we are concerned with? This is where the Word invites us to communion - not a sticking together for survival nor a compromise for the sake of pseudo peace! Communion is the oneness of heart and mind, singleness of vision and unity of purpose. In a world so varied and statuses so diverse, only thing that can give us such a communion is the Reign-vision. A vision that goes beyond any claims of authority, power, domination or pride, towards establishing the wellness of all, the entire humanity and the whole universe. This is communion and when it is achieved, the Reign is here.

At times we feel there is so much of talk but it remains merely as talks - there is no concrete commitment that is expressed. The Reign of God cannot be built by big talks! It has to be translated into concrete and mutual commitment of all those who are united in the one Lord. Owning up the call from God and standing up for the Reign is something that can never be replaced by the best of speeches or homilies, or grandest of celebrations and festivals, or greatest of structures put up! It comes from the change of heart, the change from where comes a 'Yes' that pertains to all that God wants from me. It is not merely criticism that changes a situation but a sacrificing commitment towards the others and the over all well-being of the brothers and sisters.

Let us take the lesson to our heart: grow in our communion with each other and our commitment to God's Reign on earth.

கடவுளின் உரிமையின் முத்திரை

அக்டோபர் 19, 2018: எபேசியர் 1:11-14; லூக்கா 12: 1-7

சில நேரங்களில் நான் சிலரை கண்டு வியந்தது உண்டு... இவர்கள் உண்மையிலேயே மகிழ்ச்சியாய் இருக்க வேண்டுமென விரும்புகிறார்களா இல்லையா என்று! மகிழ்ச்சியாயிருக்க காரணமும் வழியும் ஆயிரம் இருக்க, தவறாக செல்லும் ஓரிரு காரணங்கங்களை மட்டும் பிடித்து கொண்டு தங்கள் வாழ்வையும் தங்களை சுற்றி இருப்போர் வாழ்வையும் நரகமாக்கி அதிலேயே இருந்துவிட எண்ணும் இவர்களது போக்கு உண்மையிலேயே வியப்பும் வருத்தமும் தரக்கூடியது! உண்மையில் நான் கடவுளின் மகனாய் மகளாய் இருந்தால், எனக்குள் இருக்கும் இந்த மனநிலையை நான் முதலில் களைய வேண்டும். 

கிறிஸ்து இன்று கூறும் அச்சமற்ற மனநிலை என்பது இதை சார்ந்ததே. அஞ்சாதீர்கள், அஞ்சாதீர்கள் என்று திரும்ப திரும்ப கூறும் கிறிஸ்துவின் மனதை புரிந்து கொள்ள முயற்சிப்போம்... உண்மையான நிலைபாடுகளும், சரியான சிந்தனையும், நேர்மறையான வாழ்வியல் முறையும் இருந்துவிட்டால் நாம் யாரையும் எதையும் குறித்து அஞ்ச வேண்டும் என்ற அவசியமே இல்லை. நான் கடவுளுக்கு சொந்தமானவன், கடவுள் எனக்கென ஒரு திட்டத்தை வைத்துள்ளார், அதை நான் அறிவேன், படி படியாய் அதை எனக்கு உணர்த்தியும் வருகின்றார், அவரது வழிகளில் நான் நடக்கும் போது எந்த இருளும் என்னை மேற்கொள்ளாது, எந்த இழிநிலையும் எனக்கு வந்து விடாது ஏனெனில் அவரே எனக்கு கேடயமும் பலமுமாய் இருக்கிறார், அவரே என்னை காக்கின்றார், ஏனெனில் நான் அவருக்கே சொந்தமானவன், சொந்தமானவள் - இதுவே உண்மை, இந்த உண்மையே நம்மை விடுதலையாகும்!

இந்த உண்மையை நமக்கு விளங்கச்செய்பவர் தூய ஆவியானவரே... அவரே இறைவன் என் மீது கொண்டுள்ள உரிமையின் முத்திரை ஆவார், என்கிறார் பவுலடிகளார். இந்த தூய ஆவியார் என் உள்ளத்திலே பொழியப்பட்டுள்ளார், குடிகொண்டுள்ளார், தொடர்ந்து என்னை வழி நடத்துகின்றார். அவரது உரிமையின் முத்திரையை நான் உணர்கின்றேனா, அதற்கு கட்டுப்பட்டு வாழ்கின்றேனா... அவ்வாறு வாழ்ந்தால் எனக்குள்ளிருக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சியை யாராலும் எந்நேரத்திலும் எடுத்துவிட முடியாது!

Friday, 28th week in Ordinary time

October 19, 2018: Ephesians 1: 11-14; Luke 12: 1-7.

At times I wonder, do people really wish to be happy? One moment they are happy and the very next moment they are down in spirits, with concerns that they alone know. It gives me an idea that people choose to be unhappy and choose to make others unhappy! While there are thousand reasons to thank God for, we choose those few things that can make us feel miserable. While there are myriads of ways to create joy around us, we choose to make life so despicable for ourselves and all others around! If I have to be a child of God, I have to be beware of this tendency within me and people around me with such a tendency!

But I have nothing to fear! Do not fear, do not be afraid... Jesus repeatedly assures us not to be guided by fear. When we are filled with true convictions and not convenient compromises, when we are taken up with absolute commitment to the life task entrusted to us, we will be truthful to God who has created us, who has chosen us in Christ, sealed us in the Spirit and commissioned us to be the people of God, wherever and to whomever we are sent. That truth will indeed set us free (cf. Jn 8:32). 

When we live by truth, we will not fear anyone or anything. Whereas when we have teachings of our own making or forces that operate us from the dark, then we will struggling and striving to prove ourselves and dominate others: it may look like we are having power, but it is actually slavery! 

We will be enabled to make the choice that Jesus asks of us today, only by the power of the Spirit of Ownership that God has poured into our hearts, that which we need to hold on to as the mark of our belonging to God. I need to desire and wish that God owns me, directs me, controls me, uses me and holds me! Only then can I truly be glad and happy!
