உயிர்ப்பின் அழைப்பு: உயிருள்ள வார்த்தைக்கு செவிகொடுங்கள்

ஏப்ரல் 5: பாஸ்கா எண்கிழமையில் வியாழன் 

தாங்கள் யார் என்று அறிந்துகொள்ள அன்று சீடர்களுக்கும் முதல் திருச்சபைக்கும் அடிப்படையாய் இருந்தது இறைவார்த்தையே. நேற்று முதல் உயிர்த்த கிறிஸ்து தன சீடர்களின் மனதை திறந்து இறைவார்த்தையை உணர்ந்திட புரிந்திட நம்பி ஏற்றிட உதவுவதை நாம் காண்கின்றோம். ஏனெனில் தங்கள் வாழ்விலும், தங்களை சுற்றியும் நடப்பவற்றை, அவர்கள் புரிந்துக்கொள்ள இது மட்டுமே வழியாய் இருந்தது. அதை அவர்கள் புரிந்துகொண்ட உடனேயே அவர்களது அடையாளமே முற்றிலுமாய் மாறியது - மனோதிடமும், ஆன்மிக ஆற்றலும், துன்பங்களை தாங்கும் தெம்பும், புத்துணர்வும் புதுவாழ்வும் அவர்களில் மிளிர்ந்தது! இதுவே தெளிவான அடையாளத்தின் சிறப்பாற்றல்!

உயிர்ப்பின் அழைப்பாய் இன்று நமக்கும் இதுவே வந்தடைகின்றது... உயிருள்ள வார்த்தைக்கு செவிகொடுப்போம். வார்த்தை மனிதரானார், அவர்களிடையே வாழ்ந்தார். ஆனால் அவர்கள் அவரை அறிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை. அதே வார்த்தை உயிர்த்து வந்தபோது புதிதாய் அவரை உணர்ந்தார்கள். வாழ்வான வார்த்தை இது, வரலாறு படைத்த வார்த்தை இது, புது வாழ்வும் புத்துணர்வும் அவர்களுக்கு தரக்கூடிய வார்த்தை என்பதை அவர்கள் உணர்ந்தார்கள். அதே வார்த்தை இன்றும் நம்மோடு வாழ்கின்றார், நம்மோடு பேசுகின்றார் என்று உணர நம்மை அழைக்கிறது இந்த நாட்களின் வழிபாடு. விவிலியத்தில், திருவழிபாட்டிலும், நம்மை சுற்றி நடக்கும் நிகழுவுகளிலும் இறைவன் நம்மோடு பேசுகின்றார் என்பதை நாம் உணர்கின்றோமா? செவிகொடுக்கின்றோமா?

உண்மையில் நாம் செவிகொடுத்தோம் என்றால் இறைவார்த்தை நம்மிடம் பல கேள்விகளை எழுப்பும்: நம் ஆழமான அடையாளம் என்ன? வாழும் வார்த்தை விவிலியத்தில், திருவழிபாட்டிலும், சுற்றி நடக்கும் நிகழ்வுகளிலும் உன்னிடம் பேசுவதை நீ அறிந்திருக்கிறாயா? அதை புரிந்துகொள்ள உண்மையில் முயன்றுள்ளாயா? அதையே உன் வாழ்வாக்க நினைத்துள்ளாயா?

The Easter Call: Listen to the Living Word

Acts 3: 11-26; Lk 24:35-48

Understanding the Scriptures was an essential part of realising their identity for the disciples. From yesterday we see the Risen Lord take upon himself the task of opening their minds to the scriptures,  because it was from that understanding that they were able to make sense of all that they were going through. Once clarified, their identity was extraordinarily strong and they accomplished feats that nobody would imagine. That is the power of clear and specific identity.

The Easter Call thus is to Listen to the Living Word. The Word made flesh, lived among them and they failed to completely grasp what was happening. When the Lord resurrected, they beheld the Word anew...now it was a Word that was fulfilled, accomplished in history, holding out to them new life and new meaning, an altogether new identity! It is the same Living Word that speaks to us today - in the Scripture, the Sacraments and the Situation around. Are we listening?

If we are truly listening we would hear these questions posed to us: what is your identity?  What does the Scripture say to you? Do you spend time listening to the Lord speak in and through the Scripture, the Sacrament and the Situation? Do you really seek to understand what the Lord wants of you today and strive to fulfill it?

ஏப்ரல் 4: பாஸ்கா எண்கிழமையில் புதன் 

உயிர்த்த கிறிஸ்துவின் உடனிருப்பை அப்போஸ்தலர்களும் சீடர்களும் மட்டுமல்ல, சூழ்ந்திருந்த மக்களும் கூட உணர்ந்தார்கள். அப்போஸ்தலர்களும் சீடர்களும் அவர்கள் உள்ளத்தில் ஒரு நெருப்பு பற்றி எரிவதாய் உணர்ந்தார்கள்... அந்த நெருப்பு அவர்களது உள்ளத்தை ஒளிபெற செய்தது, கதகதப்பூட்டி அவர்களது உறவுகளை புதுப்பித்தது, அவர்களது சொல்லிலும், செயலிலும் துணிச்சலையும் உண்மையையும் ஆழப்படுத்தியது, அவர்களை முற்றிலுமாய் புதுப்பித்தது, அவர்களது வாழ்வுக்கு பொருளளித்து மெருகூட்டியது. ஒருமுறை நாங்கள் வாழ்ந்த இல்லத்திலே துப்புரவு பணியாளர் ஒருவரை நான் கடந்து செல்லும் போது அவர் என்னை பார்த்து புன்னகைத்தவாறே கூறினார்: "நீங்கள் இல்லத்தில் இருக்கிறீர்கள் என்றால் எங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் அது தெரியும்... ஏனெனில் மகிழ்ச்சியும் சிரிப்பொலியும் கண்டிப்பாக இருக்கும்" என்றார். வியந்துபோனேன், இறைவனுக்கு அதிகமாய் நன்றியும் கூறினேன்! 

நாம் உயிர்ப்பின் மக்கள் என்றால் நம்மிலே மகிழ்ச்சியும், உண்மை உறவும், உயிரூட்டும் ஒளியும் மிளிரவேண்டாமா! அப்படியானால் நாம் பிரச்சனைகள் அற்றவர்களாய் இருக்கவேண்டுமா என்ன? இல்லை, இருளின் மத்தியில் ஒளிவீசுபவர்களாய், துன்பங்களின் மத்தியில் பிறருக்கு ஆறுதலளிப்பவர்களாய், பிரச்சனைகளின் மத்தியில் சுற்றியுள்ளோருக்கு திடமளிப்பவர்களாய் நாம் இருக்க வேண்டும் - இதுவே உயிர்ப்பின் அழைப்பு! 

பிரச்சனைகளுக்கும், குழப்பங்களுக்கும் மத்தியில், உறுதியோடும், திடத்தோடும், குறையாத மனத்தெளிவோடும், உறவில் உண்மையோடும், உள்ளத்தில் ஒளியோடும் வாழவேண்டுமானால் நம் மனங்கள் பற்றி எரியவேண்டும்... உயிர்த்த கிறிஸ்துவின் உயிரூட்டும் நெருப்பில் நம் உள்ளங்கள் பற்றியெரிய வேண்டும்.

The Easter Call: To burn within!

Acts 3: 1-10; Lk 24: 13-35

The presence of the Risen Lord was felt in a concrete sense by the apostles and those around them. The Risen Lord was there as a fire within them, burning their hearts, warming up their relationships, heating up their commitments and lighting up their understanding. Their lives were touched by the Lord and not merely they, but all those who were around felt that touch. I was pleasantly surprised one day, when one of the cleanliness staff in our campus remarked to me as I was passing him by: 'when you are around, we all sense it. There is so much laughter and cheer!' I could not thank God enough for such an affirmation that day.

Aren't we called to be Easter people, radiating joy, radiating warmth, radiating light! That does not mean we would have no problems or no struggles! They would in fact abound. But that does not matter because we have within us a fire that is alive, burning and igniting every part of our selves - the fire of the Risen Lord. 

I received a message a few days back requesting prayers - the person said her marriage was broken, now she finds herself alone with her child, she cannot go back to her family because she had entered into this marriage against all their wish! Why is God so blind to my problems, she ended the message. I only enquired, if there were no indications when things were beginning to happen or was she negligent of those indications! However, even now she can confront her problems if only she draws strength from that fire that is within her - the presence of the Risen Lord! Can't she?

With that fire burning in our hearts, we can face any situation and find new lease of life within us and share the same with all around us.

உயிர்ப்பின் அழைப்பு: உங்கள் மனங்களை திறந்திடுங்கள்

ஏப்ரல் 3: பாஸ்கா எண்கிழமையில் செவ்வாய் 

"நாங்கள் என்ன செய்யவேண்டும்" என்று தங்கள் உள்ளம் குத்தப்பட்டவர்களாய் இன்று மக்கள் அப்போஸ்தலர்களிடம் வினவுவதை நாம் காண்கின்றோம். இதுவே மனம் மாறிய மக்களின் முதல் அறிகுறி - உள்ளம் குத்தப்பட்டவர்களாய் ஏதாவது செயதேயாகவேண்டும் என்று துடிக்கும் மனநிலை. 

ஒருமுறை, ஆண்டின் தொடக்க வாரத்திலே மறைக்கல்வி ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு ஒரு பயிற்சிப்பட்டறை நடத்தியபோது ஏற்பட்ட மறக்கமுடியாத நினைவு ஒன்று எனக்கு உண்டு. அந்த நாளின் பயிற்சி அனைத்தும் முடிந்தவுடன், ஆசிரியர்கள் களைந்து சென்று கொண்டிருந்தபோது, அவர்களில் ஒருவர் என்னிடம் வந்தார்: "தந்தையே நீங்கள் சொன்னதையெல்லாம் கேட்டுவிட்டு என்னால் வந்தபடியே திரும்பி போக இயலாது. நான் ஏதாவது செய்தேயாகவேண்டும், எனக்கு ஒரு ஆலோசனை கூறுங்களேன்" என்றார். நானும் அவர் செய்யக்கூடியவை பற்றி அவரோடு சிந்திக்க, உடனே என்னோடு தொடர்பில் இருந்த ஒரு மறைபரப்பு குழவிலே உறுப்பினராக இணைந்து ஆர்வமாய் பணியாற்றத் தொடங்கிவிட்டார்! மூன்று வருடங்களாய் அந்த குழுவில் அவர் தன்னார்வ தொண்டராய் பணியாற்றிவருகிறார். இருநூறு ஆசிரியர்கள் அந்த கருத்தரங்கில் பங்குபெற்றிருந்தாலும், இவர் ஒருவருக்கு மட்டுமே உள்ளம் குத்தப்பட்டு ஒரு புது வழி பிறந்தது என்பது எனக்கு மறக்க முடியாத ஒரு நிகழ்வு. 

உயிர்த்த கிறிஸ்துவை நம் உள்ளங்களை தொட நாம் அனுமதித்தோமேயானால் நம்மிலும் பல மாற்றங்களை அவர் நிகழ்த்தக்கூடும். ஆண்டவரே நான் ஏதாவது செய்தேயாகவேண்டும் என்று நாம் கூறினால் உயிர்த்த கிறிஸ்து நம்மை பார்த்து... நான் என் தந்தையிடம் திரும்புகிறேன், நான் தொடங்கிய பணியை நீ தொடர்வாயா -என்று கூறுவது நமக்கு கேட்கும். இதை அப்போஸ்தலர்கள் உணர்ந்தார்கள், தங்கள் வாழ்க்கையையே அதற்காக கையளித்தார்கள். 

நமக்குள்ளாக இந்த கேள்வி அவ்வப்போதாவது எழுந்ததுண்டா? நான் என்ன செய்யவேண்டும்? என்னிடமிருந்து என்ன எதிர்பார்க்கிறீர் ஆண்டவரே? என்று உள்ளம் குத்தப்பட்டு இறைவனிடம் கேட்டதுண்டா? 

இறைவனின் உயிர்ப்பு நமக்கு விடுக்கும் அழைப்பு இதுவே: மனங்களை திறங்கள், உள்ளங்கள் குத்தப்பட்டு என்ன செய்வதென்று சிந்தியுங்கள், உங்கள் வாழ்வை முழுமையாய் வாழுங்கள்.

The Easter Call: Open up your heart

Tuesday within the Easter Octave: 3rd April, 2018

Acts 2: 36-41; Jn 20: 11-18

'What are we to do?' ask the people cut to their heart! That is the first sign of a transformed people: being cut to the heart and wanting to do something about it. I remember a gathering of teachers that I addressed in the beginning of an academic year. There were over 200 of them and at the end of the meeting one teacher walked up to me and said: 'Fr. I want to do something... I just can't continue the way I am. Tell me now, what should I do?' And I gave him a suggestion, and now he is part of an Evangelisation Team, that was connected to me for the past three years! I was amazed, though it was just one out of the 200, there was at least one who was cut to his heart and changed his course in life.

If we allow the Risen Lord to encounter us through the numerous ways the Lord usually does, we will be cut to our hearts! The Lord has a suggestion for the future course of action: Go and Announce! He would say he is going to the Father and would ask us to continue what he started. The disciples took it to heart and they did an enormous work... what about you and me today? 

How frequently do we have this pressing question in our hearts: What are we to do? What am I to do? Is there some course of my life that i need to alter, in order that I may live my life to the full? This is the Easter Call, to open our hearts, to ask that question and to resume our course towards living a life to the full! 

The Easter Call: Get back to Galilee!

Monday within the Easter Octave: 2nd April, 2018

Acts 2: 14,22-33; Mt 28: 8-15

The conspiracy to malign the name of Jesus and his apostles had not stopped even after having had Jesus killed. Now after the resurrection, it gets more urgent and more intense, because the opponents were already feeling the mounting pressure. Jesus in his ever cool fashion tells his disciples to get back to Galilee- Galilee, where Jesus went about doing good, where Jesus was living and moving with them day in and day out, where Jesus was sharing their daily concerns and making them feel so cared for, loved and attended to.

The lesson for us is: at times of conspiracy, at times of troubles and uncertainties, what do we need to do? Let us get back to Galilee: let us get back to the wonderful experiences we have had with Jesus. Let us get back to the basic lessons we have learnt from Jesus. Let us get back to the fundamental values that Jesus has always been offering us.Thus we will never be disoriented and we will see a light that will pierce through the present cloud.

MEMORIES can serve as a boost for our spirit, but the same can pull us down to the drain. It all depends which of type of those we wish to keep alive. If we are Easter people, then we will keep alive the positive memories, the wholesome memories, the lovely memories, the memories that give life, memories that build up and memories that rejuvenate. This is the Easter Call today: to get back to Galilee...to fall back on the wonderful things that God has done for us, specially in times of our troubles!

உயிர்ப்பின் அழைப்பு: கலிலேயாவுக்கு திரும்புங்கள்

ஏப்ரல் 2: பாஸ்கா எண்கிழமையில் திங்கள் 

கிறிஸ்துவை சிலுவையில் அறைந்த பிறகும் அவரது எதிரிகளால் நிம்மதியாய் இருக்க முடியவில்லை. உண்மை எங்கே வெளிவந்துவிடுமோ, திரும்பவும் உயிர் பெற்றுவிடுமோ என்ற தீமையின் அச்சம் அவர்களை ஆட்கொண்டுவிட்டது, பாவம். இயேசுவின் இறந்த உடல் அமைதியாய் கல்லறை தங்கினாலும், அவர்களது உள்ளம் அமைதி பெறவில்லை. அவர்கள் பயந்தது போலவே, உயிர்த்துவிட்டார் என்று கேட்டதும் அவ்வச்சம் இன்னும் அதிகமாகிவிட்டது! எப்படியாவது உண்மையை அடக்கிவிடவேண்டும் என்று துடித்தார்கள்... உண்மையோ அவர்கள் புதைக்க புதைக்க துளிர்த்தெழுந்தது, வேர்க்கொண்டது, தழைத்தும் நின்றுவிட்டது. அந்த வேர்களின் கிளைகள் தான் நாம்!

இந்த உயிர்ப்பின் அனுபவம் நமக்கு தரும் அழைப்பு என்ன? உங்கள் வாழ்வில் தொல்லைகள், துன்பங்கள், மனக்கவலைகள், தோல்விகள், சோதனைகள், வரும்போது நீங்கள் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன? கலிலேயாவுக்கு திரும்புங்கள், என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். 

மலையாய் நம்பியிருந்த இயேசு திடீரென அவர்களோடு இல்லை. எத்தனையோ கனவுகளோடு எருசலேம் வந்தனர் அப்போஸ்தலர்கள்...இயேசு புரிந்துகொள்ளப்படுவார், இறையரசு என்று கூறுகிறாரே அதை அமைத்துவிடுவார், ரோமையர்களுக்கு எதிராக, யூதர்களை ஒன்று சேர்த்துவிடுவார் என்றெல்லாம் கோட்டைகள் கட்டி வந்திருந்தனர் அப்போஸ்தலர்கள். ஆனால் அத்தனை கனவும் இரண்டே நாளில் தகர்க்கப்படும் என்று அவர்கள் நினைக்கவில்லை. அதிர்ந்து போய் நின்றார்கள் - இயேசு கூறுகிறார்...கலிலேயாவுக்கு திரும்புங்கள்...

கலிலேயா என்பது வெறும் ஒரு ஊர் அல்ல... அது ஒரு அனுபவம்... கிறிஸ்துவோடு, ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் மாபெரும் நிகழ்வுகளை, புதுமைகளை, அதிசயங்களை, அற்புதங்களை கண்ட ஒரு அனுபவம். கலிலேயாவுக்கு திரும்புங்கள் என்பது, உங்கள் வாழ்வில் நடந்த அரும்பெரும் காரியங்களின் நினைவுக்கு திரும்புங்கள்; இறைவன் உங்களுக்காக செய்த மாபெரும் செயல்களின் நினைவுகளை புரட்டுங்கள்... உங்கள் சோதனை வேளையில் உங்களுக்கு புது ஆற்றல் பிறக்கும் என்று இறைவன் கூறுகிறார். 

கிறிஸ்துவின் உயிர்ப்பு நமக்கு தரும் பெரும் பாடம் இது. இறைவன் உயிர்த்துவிட்டார்... இனி அவர் இறப்பதில்லை, நம்மோடே உலகம் முடியும் வரை வாழ போகிறார்...அவரது உடனிருப்பு நம் கவலைகளில், துன்பங்களில் நம்மை  தேற்றும். அந்த நேரங்களில் இறைவனோடு நம் வாழ்வில் நாம் கொண்டிருந்த நல்ல அனுபவங்களை, அவர் செய்த நன்மைகளை திரும்பி பார்க்க வேண்டும் என நம்மை உயிர்ப்பு அழைக்கிறது. 

நினைவுகள் நம்மை கசப்போடும், கோபங்களோடும், மன்னியா எண்ணங்களோடும் வாழச்செய்யலாம். அல்லது அதே நினைவுகள் நம்மை நன்றியோடும், மன்னிப்போடும், சாந்தமான உள்ளத்தோடும், உண்மையான அன்போடும், நேர்மறையான எண்ணங்களோடும், வளர்ச்சிக்குரிய அனுபவங்களோடும் வாழ்வும் செய்யலாம். எந்த நினைவுகளை நாம் தேர்ந்துகொள்ளப் போகிறோம் என்பது நம்மிடமே உள்ளது. நன்மையான எண்ணங்களை தேர்ந்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள், கலிலேயாவுக்கு திரும்புங்கள் என்று உயிர்த்த கிறிஸ்து நம்மை அழைப்பது நமக்கு கேட்கிறதா? 

From death to life to Life to the Full

Easter Sunday 2018: The Risen Lord invites us!

Unusually these days here in Italy, among the children I keep hearing repeatedly the term Big Bang! It is an unfortunate reminder that the younger crop of teachers don't anymore care to teach anything about the theory of Creation! Or is it the curriculum of the State that is directing them? Anyway, they wish to be scientific and consider everything that is written in the Bible a farse! Interestingly, a parent was sharing with some of us: the kid in the family was once very confused and when asked by the grandfather, what the issue was, the kid said: 'Nonno, you say the God created the world! My teacher says Big Bang caused the world! I am totally confused!' After a little pause the grandfather, smiled at the child and asked, 'Alright, what do you say'. The kid seemed to have responded saying, "hmmm... I say, God created the Big Bang which caused the world!" Ah! That was the wisdom of the Child! We have hope in the future, after all.

I am not going to share about the Big Bang or about the Creation but about something that all of us are called to reflect on today! To reflect on that event that came like a Big Bang... and caused all the Changes we see today - the event of Resurrection! It happened and nothing has remained the same after that - the disciples changed, the people converted, the Church was born, history was divided into two and entire humanity finds itself in front of it: either to accept it or not! Yes, Resurrection is all about Transformation! 

The Risen Lord calls us to Transformation, a three fold transformation!

The first is from death to life. We are called to transform ourselves from a culture of death to a culture of life. What is a culture of death: it is fear, it is discouragement, it is negativity, it  is pessimism, it is a sense of helplessness, it is desperation! It is our choice to transform ourselves to a culture of life - it is hope, it is courage, it is creativity, it is optimism, it is a sense of confidence, it is faith! The world is immersed in a culture of death as Pope Emeritus Holy Father Benedict the XVI would often repeat. We are called to stay clear it, promote a culture of life and bring people to life - that is an experience of the Risen Lord, the first of the transformations that is expected of us. 

The second transformation is from life to new life. We are called to transform from a style of life that is given into failure and monotony to a life that is ever changing and anew every day. Every day we are called to experience this new life when we begin a new day! Let everyday you awake into, become a new journey, a new beginning, a new experience, a new hope and a new celebration with the Lord. Allow the Lord to do new things in life - Behold I make something new for you; new heavens and new earth. The Lord can create something tremendous from your troubles, your temptations and your struggles. Allow the Lord to transform it for you. Allow the Lord to work on you. 

The third transformation is from new life to life to the full. I have come that you have life, life in all its fullness, declared Jesus. And that is what he gave us at his resurrection, life to the full. We need not fear death anymore. We are recipients of the fullness of life that the Risen Lord gives. We cannot live life somehow. After they met the Risen Lord, no one could live life in a somehow... they had to live life to the full by all means - they had to stand up and speak, walk all the way to a place and just start back in the middle of the night, they could not keep silent even when they were threatened with their lives, they went far and wide - as far as Rome and as wide as Asia... because they were overflowing with enthusiasm, it was life to the full! That is the sign of having met the Risen Lord - have you met the Risen Lord yet?

As we celebrate the Risen Lord today, let us in someway get to understand the challenge posed by the Lord to transform ourselves. Where do we find ourselves: overpowered by the culture of death? Struggling to live our lives? Enjoying the New life that the Lord gives? Let us accept the challenge towards living our life to the full... a life that reflects the Risen Lord, a life that is in anticipation the life of Resurrection that awaits us all!

அமைதியில் நீ!

புனித  சனி - 31.03.2018 

ஆண்டு முழுவதிலும் புனித சனியான இன்று மட்டுமே திருச்சபையில் எங்குமே திருப்பலி ஆற்றப்படுவதில்லை... நற்கருணையும் தரப்படுவதில்லை (அது இறுதி நற்கருணையாய் இருந்தால் ஒழிய). ஏனெனில், இன்று கிறிஸ்து கல்லறையில் அடங்கிய நாள்; அவர் பாதாளத்திற்கு இறங்கினார் என்று நாம் நம்புகிறோமே, நம் பாவங்களுக்காக, நம் மீட்புக்காக அந்த பாதாளங்களில் புதைந்த நாள். 

கல்லறையின் அமைதி நம்மை சிந்திக்க வைக்கிறது... இறந்தவர் வீட்டில் கிடத்தப்பட்டிருக்கும் போது அந்த வீட்டில் நிலவும் அமைதி போன்றதொரு அமைதி இன்று திருச்சபையில் நிலவுகின்றது. இந்த அமைதி எப்போது கடந்து போகுமோ என்று எண்ணுவதை காட்டிலும், இந்த அமைதி நமக்கு தரும் பாடம் என்ன என்று தேடி பற்றிகொள்வது சாலச்சிறந்ததாகும்.

அமைதியில் நீ உனக்குள்ளே புதைந்து தேடும் போது உனக்கும் உறையும் இறைவனை, உன் உள்ளத்தில் வாழும் கடவுளை, கண்டுகொள்ள முடியும், அவரோடு உறவுகொள்ள முடியும். அந்த உறவு, உன் கடினமான காலத்திலே உனக்கு கைப்பிடியாய் கால்தடமாய் வந்து உதவும். இதோ அந்த அமைதியை சுவைத்திட ஒரு நாளை தருகிறது திருச்சபை.
