Ephesians 5:21-33; Luke 13: 18-21

I remember once that I was speaking to a group of young couples regarding the attitudes that spouses should have towards each other. When some tough statements came around,  one of them jokingly remarked, 'these things coming from Paul,  it's difficult to accept,  given the fact that he was an unmarried man!' 

And immediately another one added looking straight at me, 'Paul writing it  and you quoting it... both are difficult to accept'. There was a big roar of laughter.  That aside, there can be heated debates on issues that Paul speaks of today-  who has to be subordinate to whom!  That is not my focus. Whether I am subordinate or  head,  I am called to be IN Christ - that's the focus.

Whether I am a subordinate or a head,  or an apostle or a servant, a renowned person or a so-called nobody... I am called to be  in Christ. Being in Christ,  even if I am just a mustard seed I can grow into a mighty tree.  Being in Christ, even if I am just pinch of yeast I can make a difference for entire dough.  Being in Christ is all that matters. If anything else matters more to me, it is a clear sign that I am not in Christ!

கிறிஸ்துவில் வாழ்வதே உண்மை வாழ்வு

அக்டோபர் 30, 2018: எபேசியர் 5:21-33; லூக்கா 13: 18-21

ஒருமுறை இளம் தம்பதியினரிடம் திருமண வாழ்வில் தம்பதியர் இடையே இருக்க வேண்டிய நற்குணங்களை பற்றியும் மனநிலைகளை பற்றியும் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தேன். இன்றைய முதல் வாசகத்தின் பகுதியை விளக்கியபோது, ஒரு சில சமயங்களில் மிகவும் காரசாரமான விவாதங்கள் எழுந்தன. அதில் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள கடினமான சிலவற்றை பற்றி பேசும் போது ஒருவர், "இதையெல்லாம் பவுலடிகளார் கூறுவது ஒரு விதத்திலே வினோதமாக இருக்கிறது! அவரே திருமணமாகாதவர் அல்லவா" என்றார். உடனே வேறொருவர், "ஆம் அதை பவுலடிகளார் கூறுவதும் நீங்கள் விளக்குவதும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள கொஞ்சம் கடினமாகத்தான் இருக்கிறது" என்றார். அரங்கம் முழுவதும் சிரிப்பொலியால் நிரம்பிற்று.  

அதை சற்று ஒதுக்கி விட்டு சிந்திப்போம்... பவுலடிகளார் கூறும் கருத்துக்களை முன் நிறுத்தி, யார் யாருக்கு அடங்கி நடக்க வேண்டும் என்ற பெரியதொரு விவாதமே நடத்தலாம். ஆனால் அது அல்ல இங்கு நமது நோக்கம். அடங்கி நடப்பதா, அடங்கிப்போவதா என்பது அல்ல ஆனால் எப்படிப்பட்ட வாழ்வு உண்மையான கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்வு என்று சிந்திப்பதே இன்றைய வார்த்தையின் உண்மை அழைப்பு.

தலைவராக வாழ்கிறேனா, தொண்டராக வாழ்கிறேனா, திருத்தூதராகவோ ஊழியராகவோ, ஊரறிந்தவராகவோ அல்லது யாருமறியாத எளிமையானவராகவோ.... இவை ஏதும் உண்மையானதன்று. உண்மையான கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்வு என்பது எந்நிலையிலும், கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் வாழ்வதே என்பதை நாம் உணரவேண்டும். கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் வாழ்ந்தால், நான் சிறு கடுககாய் இருந்தாலும் போதும் பெரும் மரமாய் ஓங்கிடுவேன்; சிறு அளவு புளிப்பு மாவாய் இருந்தாலும் போதும் பெரியதொரு மாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்திவிடுவேன். கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் நான் வாழ்கிறேனா என்பது மட்டுமே இங்கு உண்மை கேள்வி... இல்லையெனின் அதிகாரம், ஆணவம், அகங்காரம் என்று பலவும் சூழ்ந்து என்னை அழித்து விடும். 

நீங்கள் ஒளியாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள்...

அக்டோபர் 29, 2018: எபேசியர் 4:32 - 5:8; லூக்கா 13: 10-17

'நீங்கள் ஒளியாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள்', என்று  இன்றைய முதல் வாசகத்திலே நம்மை பார்த்து அறிவுறுத்துகிறார்பவுலடிகளார். ஒளியாய் இருப்பதென்றால் என்ன என்பதையும் தெளிவாய் உணர்த்துகிறார்... கிறிஸ்துவோ அதை நடைமுறையாய் வாழ்ந்து காட்டுகிறார்.   

தனிப்பட்ட வாழ்வில் தூய்மை ஒருவரை இருளின் மத்தியிலே ஒளிரச்செய்கிறது. இன்று உலகம் தவறு செய்வதை குறித்து அஞ்சுவதை விட தவறு செய்து சிக்கிக்கொள்வதை குறித்தே அஞ்சுகிறது. வெறும் மற்றவர் பார்வைக்கும் உலகத்தின் புகழுக்கும் வாழப்படுவது தூய்மையானது!

மனித உறவுகளில் உண்மை ஒருவரை இறைச்சாயல் பெறச்செய்கிறது. தான் என்ற அகங்காரமோ, தனக்கு என்ற சுயநலமோ, தனது என்ற பயன்படுத்தும் மனநிலையோ இல்லாமல் வளரும் உறவுகளில் இறைவனே வாழ்கிறார். ஒருவரை கண்டவுடனேயே அவரகளது தேவை நமது கண்களுக்கு படவேண்டும் தவிர அவர்களது பலகீனம் அல்ல. 

ஆன்மீகத்தில் ஊன்றிய அடையாளம் ஒருவரை இறைவனுக்குரியவர் ஆக்குகிறது. இறைவனின் உருவையும் சாயலையும் தாங்கியவர் என்ற உணர்வு மிகுந்தவராக இறைவனுக்கு உரியவற்றையே செய்யும் வாழ்க்கை முறை அடுத்தவரோடு ஒப்பிட்டு அல்ல இறைவனின் சித்தம் என்னை எதற்கு அழைக்கிறது என்ற தெளிவோடு நடக்கவே என்னை அழைக்கிறது. 

சுருங்க கூறின், தனிப்பட்ட தூய்மை, உறவில் உண்மை, இறையுணர்வு என்னும் இவை என்னை இறைவனின் சாயலாகவே மாற்றுகிறது! நாம் அவரைப்போலவே மாற அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம், ஏனெனில் நாம் அவரது பிள்ளைகளாவோம். கடவுளை போல் மாற நாம் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பதை கிறிஸ்துவே வாழ்ந்து காட்டியுள்ளார். ஒளியான அவரது வழியில் நடப்போம், ஒளியாய் வாழ்வோம்!

Being Children of Light

Monday,  30th week in Ordinary time

October 29, 2018: Ephesians 4:32 - 5:8; Lk 13: 10-17

'Children of Light', that is how St.Paul addresses us in the first reading today. The readings also paints a clear picture of what it means to be children of God...

Personal purity that makes one shine amidst darkness.  The endurance that keeps  one from any compromise merely for the reason  that they are not seen is foundational to this. Today people are more worried about privacy breach, than about what they are upto in their so-called private lives - very indicative, isn't it?

Interpersonal simplicity that makes one godly and does not give into to complications such as ego, discrimination and revengeful rancour. Looking at the other and instantly perceiving the need of the other, not their weakness: that is Godliness. Any type of exploitation or discrimination begins when we look at the other through the selfish filter of usefulness!

Spiritual ìdentity that makes me convinced of my link to the Lord,  so convinced that I am always conscious that it is  the Lord's image that I carry and manifest. I do not compare myself with others but always understand me with reference to my God, who has created me and commissioned me! What does God want of me right now, should be the only question that matters!

In short, growing in personal purity, interpersonal simplicity and spiritual identity means becoming like God, simply because we are children of God. Jesus, our Light, showed us how to live it in his life. He invites us to grow everyday to be truly children of light. Are we growing to be?

MEET THE EMPATHISING LORD ON YOUR WAY

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time : 28th October,  2018

Jer 31: 7-9; Heb 5: 1-6; Mk 10: 46-52

"God"...How do you understand that term... the Almighty,  the Omnipotent,  the Mighty One? ... you are still short of arriving at the God whom Jesus introduced to us. In and through Jesus we have a God who is all these but more than all these,  a God who is close to us,  a Father who loves us,  a mother who cares for us,  a beloved who longs for us,  a friend who stays close to us and a SavIour who came down to save us... in short,  an Empathising God!

How do we understand an Empathising Lord? 

1. LIKE US

We have a Lord who is like us... like us in every way except in our sins. A Lord who came among us,  ate,  drank, laughed,  cried,  enjoyed, celebrated, loved, worked, faced hardships and temptations... He was like any of us,  just like us and therefore, when we suffer,  when we are troubled,  when we have problems and temptations,  the Lord perfectly knows what we are through. He is not someone who would judge us from afar or look down on our weaknesses but some one who would put His hands around our shoulders and comfort us, someone who would sit by our side and say, 'it's okay! I have been there too'! The second reading brings this out strongly.

The Synod that is just concluding today, the Synod of Bishops on Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment is an expression of the Church, making present this aspect of God - the empathising God who understands, does not judge but empathises with the youth who form the most affected part of the humanity that is torn apart by the wiles of the world today!

2. LIKES US

We have a Lord who likes us... who loves us,  who feels for us,  who wishes that we were happy,  who wants to heal us,  who wants to give us all that we need,  who wants to walk us to prosperity and fullness,  who wants to give sight to us,  who wants to listen to us,  who wants to reach out to us! God, our Father and Mother, who spared no effort,  giving up even the only Son; the Son who keeps back nothing, not even his own life- his body and his blood;  the Spirit who comes down to dwell within us,  within our poor bodies,  in our lowly conditions,  in our daily toils. This is the Lord who loves us, likes us so much that he is ready to do any thing for our sake. In the first reading and the Gospel we have a exposition of the Lord who is merciful and kind,  who is in love with us. The Gospel in a special way speaks of a Lord who listens to a lone cry amidst the large crowd, and has mercy on that person and heals the person in love!

This is precisely what Pope Francis wants the entire humanity to understand about God and about being Godly - God is merciful; God is abundant Mercy; being Godly is to first recognise the mercy of God and to live the same mercy with each other. God is not about keeping a distance or going about with impregnable securities and safeguards. God is with us and God connects with us all the time, because God loves us!

3. LIKENS US 

The Lord who came down to be like us,  the Lord who dies to show how much he likes us,  does not stop with that... God wants to liken us to Godself. The first and the second readings present to us a God who wants to make us God's sons and daughters,  God's children, God's beloved ones,  God's favourites. God invites us constantly towards this fullness of becoming God's own. We become God's own by opening our eyes of faith. We become God's own by crying out with faith. We become God's own by trusting in faith that God can do and will do everything for us! Thus becoming God's children we will be with God, close to God and like God,  for we will see God face to face,  as says St. Paul.

All that we need to do is cry out from our hearts to God, and not bother about the crowd and the noise around, because the Lord shall single out our cry! And what a privileged moment it shall be when we hear the Lord tell us today: "Your faith has made you whole! Go in peace!" 

Let us never forget the great truth that we have an Empathising Lord who chose to be like us, who likes us and who longs to liken us to Himself. Let us be prepared to meet this Lord on the roads of our daily life!

முதிர்ச்சி நோக்கி பயணிக்க

அக்டோபர் 27, 2018: எபேசியர் 4: 7-16; லூக்கா 13: 1-9

தொடர்ந்து நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் கத்தோலிக்கருக்கும் கத்தோலிக்கரல்லாத கிறிஸ்தவருக்கும் இடையேயான சண்டைக்கும் சச்சரவுக்கும் தீனி போடக்கூடிய ஒரு பகுதி இன்றைய முதல் வாசகம்! ஒருவரை ஒருவர் பார்த்து தந்திரமென்றும், சூழ்ச்சியென்றும், தவறுக்கு வழிநடத்தும் ஏமாற்று போதனை என்றும் தூற்றி கொண்டிருக்கும் சிறுபிள்ளைத்தனம் தொடர்ந்து வந்து கொண்டுதானே இருக்கிறது? ஆனால் இன்று நம்மை முதிர்ச்சியை நோக்கி பயணிக்க அழைக்கிறார் பவுலடிகளார். கிறிஸ்துவுக்கு உரிய நிறைவை நோக்கி வளர நம்மை அழைக்கிறார்.  கிறிஸ்துவுக்குரிய நிறைவு என்பது, உண்மையும் அன்புமே என்று நமக்கு அறிவுறுத்துகிறது இன்றைய வார்த்தை. 

உண்மை என்பது இருப்பது... அதை யாராலும் கற்பனையிலும் தன் திறமையிலும் வளர்த்திட முடியாது, இருப்பதை மூடி மறைக்கவும் முடியாது. தாமாக உருவாக்கினால், எனது மனசாட்சியே எனக்கு அதை உணர்த்திவிடும்; உள்ளதை எவ்வளவு தான் மறைத்தாலும் அது இல்லாமல் போய்விடாது! நாம் உண்மையை உணர்ந்து ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளக் கூடியவர்களாய் வளர்வதே நலம். 

அன்பு என்பது கடவுளின் உருவம்... அந்த உருவிலே தான் நாம் படைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம், அந்த அன்பே நம்மை கடவுளின் பிள்ளைகளாக்குகிறது. அன்பே அடிப்படை உண்மை, எல்லா உண்மைக்கும் ஊற்று அதுவே. அன்பிலே வளர்வோம், அன்பிலே  முதிர்ச்சி அடைவோம். இறைவன் மீதான அன்பிலே, நம் சகோதர சகோதரிகள் மீதான அன்பினிலே வளர உண்மையான முயற்சியெடுப்போம். 

இன்னும் எத்தனை நாட்கள் தான் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் இழிவுபடுத்தி பேசிக்கொண்டு, இறைவனின் ஒரே உடலை துண்டு துண்டாக கூறுபோடப் போகிறோம்? இன்னும் எவ்வளவு காலம் தான் அடுத்தவரின் அழிவில் இன்பம் காண போகிறோம்? இன்னும் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் தீர்ப்பிட்டு, அடுத்தவர் வீழ்ந்தால் மகிழ்ச்சிகொண்டு, அடுத்தவரை பகைவராகவே கருதிக்கொண்டு  வாழ்வது சரியாகுமா? கிறிஸ்துவுக்கு உரியதாகுமா?  

வளருவோம்! முதிர்ச்சியை நோக்கி, கிறிஸ்துவின் நிறைவை நோக்கி, உண்மையை, அன்பை நோக்கி வளர்வோம், கணி தருவோம், இறைவனுக்குரியவர்களாவோம்!

Let us Grow Up!

Saturday, 29th week in Ordinary time

October 27, 2018: Ephesians 4: 7-16; Luke 13: 1-9

The first reading today would lend itself so well for an interdenominational war and a catholics-protestants feud, one calling the other a human trickery and deceptive scheming. Let us grow up dear friends! St. Paul challenges us to grow into the full stature of Christ and that is nothing but truth and love. 

Truth is what is - it is neither cooked up nor covered up! When something is imagined and feigned, it actually doesn't exist; and the one who has cooked it up knows it pretty well. He or she stands convicted by his or her own conscience! What is, is is. Even if it is covered up, it never ceases to exist. We better grow up to accept it.

Love is what God is - and that is where we come from and that is what we are made of. It is the ultimate of all truths. Let us grow in love, love for God, love for each other, a patient acceptance of each other and loving fellowship of brothers and sisters. 

How long would we go on calling each other names, breaking the Body of Christ into non negotiable bits and pieces? How long will we curse each other and rejoice in the fall of the other? How long will you judge each other and eagerly await, if not actively work for, the destruction of the other? If we go on like this, Jesus says that twice in the Gospel today: 'you will all perish!' 

It is high time we realise our call to grow up and bear fruit. God has given us enough and more chances. Let us equip ourselves, not with offences and defences, but with arms of love and feet of generosity. Let us prune our ego and till our arid hearts. Let us sow seeds of love and reap the fruit of brotherhood and sisterhood. 

Love is our identity and nothing else is: by this they will know that you are my disciples, by the love that you have for one another (Jn 13:35). There can be no worse scandal than a divided Church and of course, there can be no better proclamation of the Gospel than a loving and united community of faithful, who live together as brothers and sisters, one in the Lord and in the Spirit!

The sign of being ONE

October 26, 2018: Ephesians 4:1-6; Luke 12: 54-59

Looking at the situation around filled so much with hatred and violence, vengeance and treachery, gruesome competition and heartless development... should we not easily decipher what our call is as people of God? If we add to the number of those who perpetrate such a situation or even if we remain silent without questioning their logic, we are 'hypocrites' as Jesus calls today! 

At times it is pathetic looking at some discussions in the social network fora like the Facebook for example. I am only reminded of the fact that we can arouse a person who is sleeping, but not the one who pretends to be sleeping! It is true: for most of the problems today, it is not that we do not have a solution; actually, we do not want to arrive at it. 

Jesus gives his piece of mind to the pharisees and scribes, because he finds in them the hypocrisy of not choosing things that were so obviously towards the right. Its like these people on the social networks who, in spite of knowing who is at fault, keep making a hue and cry about things that are just opposed to truth merely because of their allegiances! The problems in the world are due to the lack of oneness of vision that afflicts us... each one with a selfish agenda, or groups with unfounded prejudices, classes with insensitive urge for advancement, persons with inhuman tendencies of manipulation and exploitation...these are persons who could not care less about the golden rule. They have a set of rules for themselves and a completely different one for others. These are people filled with discrepancies and disparities, and will be the least likely to enter the Reign of God. Are we in any chance among those in that list? 

We are challenged to stand up to the situation and give the world a sign that we can be ONE, One people, One heart, One mind, One society, One humanity, One family...united by the ONE LORD. In our own simple ways we are called to bear witness to this fact, beginning from our interior mentality and the inner circle of the family.

ஒரே மனம் ஒரே இனமென ...

அக்டோபர் 26, 2018: எபேசியர் 4: 1-6; லூக்கா 12: 54-59

இன்றைய சூழலில் நாம் எங்கு பார்த்தாலும் போட்டியும் பொறாமையம், பழிவாங்கும் நோக்கும் குழி பறித்திடும் எண்ணமும் தான் அதிகமாய் காணப்படுகிறது. இத்தகைய உலகத்தில் இறைவனின் மக்கள் என்று தங்களையே அழைத்துக்கொள்வோரின் நிலைப்பாடும் வாழ்க்கை முறையும் எவ்வாறு இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பது நாமறிந்ததே. இந்த உலகில் உள்ள பிரச்சனைகளோடு நாமும் ஒரு பிரச்சனையை சேர்த்து உருவாக்குபவர்களாகவோ, இருக்கும் பிரச்சனைகளுக்கும் நமக்கும் ஒரு தொடர்பும் இல்லாதது போல் செல்பவர்களாகவும் நாம் இருந்தோமெனில், 'வெளிவேடக்காரர்களே' என்று கிறிஸ்து சாடும் அந்த வார்த்தைகள் நமக்கும் சால பொருந்தும். 

சில நேரங்களில் முகநூல் போன்ற சமூக வலைத்தளங்களில் சில உரையாடல்களை காணும் போது, ஒரு சிலரின் வாக்குவாதங்கள் நமக்கு ஒரு கூற்றை மிக தெளிவாக உணர்த்துகிறது - நாம் உறங்குபவர்களை எழுப்பிவிடலாம், உறங்குவதை போல் நடிப்பவர்களை எழுப்பவே முடியாது. தங்களை சுற்றி நடப்பதற்கு காரணமும் அதன் தீர்வும் என்னவென்று மிகத்தெளிவாக தெரிந்தும், தங்களுக்கு பிடித்தவர்கள், "தங்கள் ஆட்கள்" என்ற சில காரணங்களால் இதை உணராதவாரே பேசிக்கொண்டு இருப்பார்கள்.

இன்று நற்செய்தியில் கிறிஸ்து பரிசேயர்களை வெகுவாய் கடிந்துகொள்கிறார், காரணம் அவர்கள் சரியானது எது என்று அத்தனை தெளிவாய் அறிந்திருந்தும் அதை தேர்ந்துகொள்ளாமல் இருந்தததே. நாம் மேல்கூறிய அந்த முகநூல் நண்பர்களை போல! இன்று உலகிலும் நம் நாடுகளிலும் நமது சமுதாயத்திலும் உள்ள பிரச்சனைகளில் பெரும்பான்மை, ஒற்றுமையின்மை என்ற கோணத்திலே காணும்போது நமக்கு இன்னும் தெளிவாய் விளங்கும். தன்னலமிக்க சிந்தனைகள், அடுத்தவரை குறித்த முற்சாய்வு எண்ணங்கள், முன்னேற்றம் என்ற ஒரு நிலைக்காக எதையும் யாரையும் தியாகம் செய்யும் மனநிலை, அடுத்தவரை ஏமாற்றவும் பயன்படுத்தவும் அவர்களிடமிருந்து முடிந்தவரை சுரண்டிடவும் தயாராக இருக்கும் இழிநிலை... இவை எல்லாமே வெளிவேடக்காரர்களின் அடையாளம் தான். தமக்கென்று ஒரு சட்டம் அடுத்தவருக்கோ வேறு சட்டம் என்று வேடமிட்டு வாழ்பவர்கள் இவர்கள். இறையாட்சியில் இவர்கள் நுழைவதென்பது எத்தனை அரிது. இவர்களை தீர்ப்பிடுவதற்கு முன், ஒருவேளை நானும் இந்த வரிசையில் இருக்கிறேனா என்று என்னையே நான் கேட்டுக்கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

விழித்துகொள்வோம், அழைப்பை உணர்வோம், ஒருமனப்படுவோம், ஒரு மக்களாய், ஒரே உள்ளம், ஒரே மனம், ஒரே இனம், ஒரே மனிதம், என்று ஒரே இறைவனால் இணைக்கப்பட்டவர்களாவோம்; இந்த உலகிற்கு அன்பினால் பாடம் புகட்டுவோம், சாட்சியமாவோம். நம் ஆழ்மன சிந்தனைகளிலிருந்து இந்த மாற்றத்தை தொடங்குவோம்.

இறைவனின் அன்பு: பற்றியெரிகிறது, பிரித்துக்காட்டுகிறது!

அக்டோபர் 25, 2018: எபேசியர் 3: 14-21; லூக்கா 12: 49-53

நாம் இறைவனின் பிள்ளைகள், அவரது மக்கள்! அன்பே உருவாய், அன்பிற்கெல்லாம் ஊற்றாய் இருக்கும் இறைவனின் உருவை தாங்கிட அவரால் தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டவர்கள் நாம், அவரது அடையாளத்தை நம்மில் கொண்டு வாழ்பவர்கள்! தன் அன்பை கடவுள் நம் உள்ளத்திலே நிரம்ப செய்திருக்கிறார், நிறைவாய் பொழிந்திருக்கிறார். இந்த அன்பு நம் உள்ளத்திலே அவரது கொடையாகவும் அதே நேரத்தில் அவரது அடையாளமாகவும் பொழியப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பதை நாம் உணரவேண்டும். 

இறைவனின் ஆவி எனக்குள் வாழுகிறார் என்பதன் முதன்மையான அடையாளமே இந்த அன்பு தான். என்னை இறைவனின் பிள்ளையாக, கிறிஸ்துவின் சீடனாக சீடத்தியாக, தூய ஆவியின் ஆலயமாக பிரித்து காட்டுவதும் இந்த அன்பே! இரவையும் பகலையும் ஒளி பிரித்துக்காட்டுவது போல இறைவனுக்குரியவர்களையும் மற்றவர்களையும் பிரித்துக்காட்டுவது அன்பே. ஆகையால் தான் கிறிஸ்து இன்று பிரிவினையை குறித்து பேசுகிறார். போட்டியாலும் பொறாமையாலும் நாம் நம்மையே பிரித்துக்கொள்ளும் பிரிவினை அல்ல, மாறாக, அன்பினால், அன்பின் அடையாளத்தால் பிரித்து காட்டப்படும் உண்மையை குறித்து நம்மிடம் பேசுகிறார். 

இறைவனின் அன்பு உடையவர்கள், அந்த அன்பின்றி வாழ்பவர்கள் என்று நாம் பிரித்து காட்டப்படுகிறோம்! உண்மையிலேயே இறைவனின் மக்கள் இந்த அன்பை உடையவர்களாக அடையாளப்படுத்தப் படுவார்கள். இறைவனின் அன்பு எதையும் எதிர்பாராத அன்பு! திரும்ப கிடைக்கும் என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்போ, இன்பம் அளிக்கும் என்ற ஆவலோ, எனக்கு நன்மையாய் அமையும் என்ற எண்ணமோ எதுவுமின்றி செய்யப்படுவதே உண்மை அன்பு! இந்த அன்பு, இறைவனின் இந்த அன்பு, நம்மில் இருந்துவிட்டால் நாம் மகிழ்ச்சியாய் இருப்போம் என்று தவறாக எண்ணிவிட கூடாது. ஏனெனில் இந்த அன்பு இருப்பவர்களாய்  நாம் இருக்கும் போது நாம் ஏமாற்றப்படுவோம், ஏளனப்படுத்தப்படுவோம், ஏறி மிதிக்கப்படுவோம்... இருப்பினும் நிலையாய் நிற்பவரே இறுதி வாகையை சூடுவர் (காண்க - யாகப்பர் 1:12).
